Position Type: Support Staff/ParaprofessionalDate Posted: 11/25/2024Location: Kennedy High SchoolDate Available: 12/09/2024Closing Date: Until FilledPosition: Instructional Assistant/AVID Tutor (4 positions) Effective Date: December 9, 2024 Hours: 7:45am - 1:35pm 1 day per week (Fridays) Until end of school year Required Education: High School Diploma and two years post secondary education *A passing score on the ParaPro Test is equivalent to the post secondary requirement Required Experience:
  • Is currently enrolled in college courses or has a previously earned a college degree
  • Has an educational philosophy that supports access to a rigorous college-prep curriculum for any student with the desire and willingness to work hard
  • Possesses the personal attributes of integrity and respect for others as well as ability to work effectively in collaborative teams and serve as a mentor / role model for students
  • Possesses effective organizational skills
  • Possesses at least entry-level college writing, speaking, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Possesses at least entry-level college math and science skills
  • Is able to implement goals, lead tutorial groups, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines
Responsibilities:
  • Offer targeted instructional assistance to high school students in four AVID Elective class periods and one other academic class period.
  • Work with a group of students and guide them through an inquiry process in helping them answer or solve academic content (math, science, english and social studies) questions through higher level thinking and questioning.
  • Prepare for future tutorials, assess student work, debrief the tutorial session with the AVID Elective Teacher.
  • Conduct mini-lessons provided by AVID elective teacher in WICOR strategies, study skills, collaborative problem solving, learning to advocate and other aspects of college preparation.
  • Communicate frequently and honestly with the AVID coordinator/teacher regarding student progress and areas of concern.
  • Set an example of personal excellence and high expectations for AVID students to follow.
  • Plan for and assist with other activities that support the AVID Program.
  • Other tutoring duties as assigned
