L.M. Gill Welding & Manufacturing, a Naval Defense manufacturing company located in Manchester, CT is projecting substantial growth due to the forecasted increase in submarine builds. Currently, we are looking for a F/T Manufacturing Engineer who will be responsible for all CNC program use and control, and the use and maintenance of the DNC system. Providing engineering support, and trouble-shooting assistance to production to help or support setting up jobs and machining parts where needed.
Responsibilities:· Must be able to read prints, perform complex dimensional calculations and understand and be able to read geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
· Can determine tool wear and perform tool changes as well as calculate tool offsets. Typically has to maintain dimensional tolerances less than or equal to +/- .001.
· Must be able to use all standard measurement tools to determine part quality.
· Must be able to calculate slopes and angles and perform complex inspection setups.
· Performs setups with assistance for jobs with single or multiple operations having tolerances greater than +/- .001.
· Work with all departments to reduce set up times, troubleshoot production issues, train set up operators to perform best practices.
· Create operator set-up sheets and run procedures.
· Create and edit process traveler/routing sheets.
· Must be able to program, set up and operate a wide range of parts and machinery without supervision (including highly complex 5 axis parts).
· Ability to supervise and train assistants and floor operators.
· Willingness to be an internal auditor to support the QMS (Quality Management system)
· Design and build fixtures within a controlled system.
Qualifications:· Experience working with CNC Lathes and Mills and CAM/DNC software.
· Ability to read and understand drawings including geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
· Advanced skills using Mastercam and Solid Works.
· Advanced skills using and administering DNC systems.
· Use of precision measurement tools
· Able to maintain accurate part counts
· Knowledge of tooling and inserts
· Ability to determine tool wear and prescribe optimal tool selection.
· Ability to calculate tool offsets
· Ability to maintain close tolerances
· Knowledge of Math including algebra and geometry
· 5+ years setup experience
· Tool setup and tool maintenance knowledge
· Use of ERP systems for engineering functions/Costings/BOM's etc. Epicor a PLUS!!
· Safety knowledge
· Previous experience in a company with ISO/AS quality systems.
Specific Goals and Objectives
· Own the machining strategy for all parts produced.
· Standardize the method of programming and the proper use of the DNC system.
· Work with production to train and coach for optimal and safe machining practices.
· Prescribe how jobs will be set up (fixturing and set up sheets), reducing operations and handling where possible.
· Help to implement the use of training matrixes and training programs for operators and engineering assistants.
