Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with Product Development and Design Engineering to optimize the manufacturability of metal parts, including material selection and feature optimization
- Review and approve new tool designs and modifications
- Lead projects to design, build, and commission of Roll Forming •Extrusion •Press Braking •Stamping •Forging •Casting and other various methods of metal part manufacturing tooling, including obtaining tooling and part quotes from suppliers.
- Work collaboratively with Product Engineering and Supply Chain to scope and implement changes to released tooling
- Knowledge of material Surface finishes:
- Chemical vapor deposition (CVD)
- Electrophoretic deposition (EPD)
- Mechanical plating.
- Sputter deposition.
- Physical vapor deposition (PVD)
- Vacuum plating.
- Powder Coating
- Support engineering and quality team during metal part approval process, including FAI, PPAP, IQ, OQ, PQ Validation protocols & Statistical Process Control (Cpk)
- Apply engineering analysis to make data-driven design decisions
- Use sound engineering principles and practices to develop practical solutions to complex problems and to develop new technologies that serve to evolve AFL's product portfolio.
- Interface with cross-functional project teams consisting of product management, application engineering, process and manufacturing engineering, quality, and development engineering during all phases of product development, including ramp-up and release to manufacturing.
- Adhere to and promote the environmental, health & safety policies of AFL.
- Perform other engineering related duties as required.

Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience designing and/or building Die / Form tooling
- Parametric solid modeling experience (SolidWorks preferred)
- Knowledge of metal material properties and applications
- Knowledge of metal part design practices
- Knowledge of metal part metrology
- Project management experience
- Experience working within an ISO-9001 quality management system
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, influencing and teamwork skills
- Effective time management and organizational skills
PREFFERED SKILLS: (NOT REQUIRED)
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or other similar technical discipline)
- 5+ years of experience designing and/or building Progressive Die / Form Tooling
- 2+ years of experience designing metal parts
- Fiber Optic industry experience, especially design, development, and/or applications
Working Conditions
- Primary work environment is an office environment
- Occasional work in tool machine shops and injection molding shop floor operations to support tool builds and acceptance
- Up to 25% domestic and international travel
