Apply Now!Your OpportunityResponsible for the identification of market animals of approximately 200,000 Grow/Finish spaces. Identify 8,000-12,000 animals for market on a weekly basis, and ensures the correct animals are identified and being sent to the proper market.Core Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and implementing annual wean to finish strategic plan and goals
- Be responsible for optimizing wean to finish growth of the pig at designated sites and delivering that pig to our customer within their desired specifications
- Work with support groups to achieve a harmonious relationship
- Assure biosecurity is maintained
- Walk several pens daily, identifying animals for market
- Shower into multiple farms on a daily basis
- Properly identify several thousand animals for market cuts on a weekly basis
- Project animals to the correct market
- Understand production reports such as: TOPS, Projected vs Actual sales, TM forecast, TM schedule report, weekly shipping schedule, Lot close out, Net wt KPI, Hormel and Yosemite data and financial statements
- Must be able to identify opportunities and develop strategies to improve
- Understand animal flows and feeder pig schedules
- Responsible for accurate production data, including accurate and timely collection and reporting
- Provide technical expertise to the marketing process
- Understand and follow CI principles
- Understand, follow and help develop Nursery and Finishing SOP's
- Maintain KPI's
- Do any and all tasks as described in the Farm Leader, and Production Technician job descriptions
- Responsible for being in compliance with all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield subscribes
- Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor
- Read and understand the company's emergency notification process and will be responsible for reviewing that policy at their work site
- Follow Smithfield animal welfare policies and procedures including providing a physical environment that meets the animals needs, providing access to adequate water and high quality feed, providing humane treatment of the animals, providing identification and appropriate treatment of animals in need of health care and following the guidelines for euthanasia as outlined in the Smithfield' SOP Manual
- Responsible for understanding all safety requirements of the job and for performing the job in compliance with the safety requirements

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Animal Science or Business Administration or equivalent combination of education and experience, required
- Ability to do hard physical labor

- Proven working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Power Point, and internet.

- Maintain PQA Plus and TQA certification
- Completed certification levels preferred
- Must be able to work an average 45-hour week with an average 9-hour workday, which can vary frequently
- Weekend, evening and holiday work as needed; periodically work during night-time marketing
- Must be on call to work in emergency situations such as power outages or personnel shortages
- Must be available for occasional travel

- Must be able to walk and stand on concrete for 9 to 12 hours per day, walking down narrow alleys and stepping in and out of penning

- Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Must be able to perform repetitive motions (i.e. giving vaccinations)
- Must understand that Smithfield is a producer of high quality pork for human consumption and must be supportive of the mission of raising swine for meat
- Must be able to work with a wide range of antibiotics (i.e. penicillin)
- Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, odors, and frequently hot and noisy conditions
