Pay Range: $59,309.60-$65,466.70

DESCRIPTION:

The City of Box Elder is seeking a highly motivated and outgoing individual to fill the position of Marketing and Event Coordinator. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing a variety of marketing initiatives and events for the City of Box Elder. This role involves creating and executing marketing campaigns and coordinating community events to promote the city and enhance community engagement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Assists with identifying and developing marketing strategies and campaigns to promote the City of Box Elder's brand identity as a destination of choice among residents, business and property owners, economic development leaders, and other key stakeholders.

* Creates appropriate promotional and marketing content for a variety of outreach channels including social media, digital media, and signage to ensure promotions reach the intended audience promptly.

* Conducts market research and analysis to identify new opportunities for growth and engagement.

* Tracks and analyzes the success of marketing efforts through metrics and reports, providing regular updates to department leadership.

* Responsible for the design and distribution of promotional materials, including flyers, applications, videos, advertisements, posters, and banners. Coordinates with vendors for production as needed.

* Actively promotes the city and creates sponsorship opportunities at local events including Chamber meetings and other business meetings.

* Develops and maintains relationships with local businesses and community partners to maximize exposure for City events.

* Manages event budgets and tracks expenses to ensure events stay within budget.

* Plans, organizes, and oversees the coordination of vendors for all events.

* Collaborates with potential partners to expand market reach; confirms sponsors and sponsorship packages are fully paid and are being executed according to the budget.

* Manages reservations of locations for City-sponsored indoor and outdoor events; coordinates and executes in-house events.

* Recruits and manages volunteers for all events; maintains a volunteer pool of qualified individuals.

* Stays up to date on industry trends and best practices in marketing and event coordination.

* Works with the Safety & Risk Manager to ensure the safety of participants and that liability issues of the City are met.

* Provides post-event debrief to Council as needed.

* Initiates documents according to the approved purchasing policy for vendors and contracts to support events.

* Attends events and ceremonies to network and take pictures to post on social media pages; assists with creating content for the City website and social media accounts.

* Compiles data, prepares reports, and completes special projects as requested; prepares and maintains related documents, and updates materials as assigned.

* Promotes and supports the overall mission of the City by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with the public and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.

* Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

* A minimum of two (2) years of professional economic development marketing and event planning experience.

* An associate or bachelor's degree in marketing preferred.

Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

* Valid South Dakota Driver's license, or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of the hiring date.

Required Knowledge:

* Modern practices, procedures, strategies, and techniques of communications, marketing, branding, media relations, and community/public relations.

* Principles and practices of event planning and management.

* Record-keeping principles and practices.

* Correct business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

* Principles and techniques for preparing effective written informational or educational materials.

* Computer applications related to duties with established proficiency in Microsoft Office.

* Techniques of making effective oral presentations to large and small groups.

* Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the operation of standard office equipment.

* Techniques for dealing with a variety of individuals, in person and over the telephone.

Required Skills:

* Graphic arts and printing methods, materials, and terminology. Social media development and management.

* Planning and implementing events and special projects.

* Using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines.

* Making effective oral presentations to large and small groups.

* Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

The Economic and Community Development Director will assign work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of final results.

GUIDELINES:

Guidelines for this position include city communication plans and department policies and procedures. Contacts are typically to exchange information, motivate people, negotiate matters, resolve problems, and provide services.

CONTACTS:

Contacts are typically with coworkers, other city staff, elected and appointed officials, local business owners, vendors, and members of the general public. Contacts are generally to exchange information, motivate people, negotiate matters, resolve problems, and provide services.

Work is generally performed in an office setting. Work is subject to travel to a variety of City locations for events as needed.
