The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a Martial Arts Instructor to join our team! The YMCA focuses on empowering people in all forms, by improving health and well-being and inspiring action in and across our neighborhoods. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading non-profit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. As a Martial Arts Instructor, you will be responsible for planning and scheduling high-quality Martial Arts classes for ages six and up. Provides practical instruction, and ensures that students learn and operate within a safe, supportive environment. Ensures lessons are fun and engaging.Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, lead, and teach martial arts classes following YMCA standards and guidelines or other nationally recognized certifications.
- Plan and communicate belt-testing event to promote students within the class.
- Plan and prepare skill progression specific to martial arts for each class.
- Observe and discuss individual progress with participants. Develops rapport with members and responds to related questions.
- Asks and answers questions from program participants and members to support them in achieving their goals related to health and well-being.
- Assist Program Director with ideas in the marketing for the youth department.
- Assist in the recruitment of volunteers for all classes and programs. Possesses a working knowledge of safety and emergency procedures and be able to exercise sound judgment, and report any unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
- Embraces and actively promotes an inclusive and equitable work environment.
- Attend and participate in YMCA community functions and events to promote the YMCA, its mission and programs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Has earned a high school diploma/GED or equivalent work/education experience.
- One year of Martial Arts Instruction experience
- Martial Arts Instructors must demonstrate competence through completion of appropriate training sanctioned by a recognized Martial Arts National Governing Body.
- Able to relate and communicate with people on all levels in a friendly and respectful manner.
- Possesses a working knowledge of safety and emergency procedures and be able to exercise sound judgment, and report any unsafe conditions to supervisor immediately.
- Must complete Child Abuse Prevention on the first day as well as other required online and on-person trainings as required.
- CPR, First Aid, AED certifications preferred.
- Must be able to pass Background and Reference checks (in accordance with the WA State Fair Chance Act).
