Position Type: Information Technology (IT)/Network SpecialistDate Posted: 10/28/2024Location: Mason City SchoolsDistrict: Mason City School DistrictJob Title: Data & Information Systems Coordinator Location: Mason City Schools Department: Innovative Systems Reports to: Innovative Systems Officer FLSA Status: Exempt Job Description The Data & Information Systems Coordinator is responsible for managing the district's student information system (eSchoolPLUS) and ensuring the integrity and availability of district data and analytics. This role involves overseeing and managing data for district systems, including but not limited to student records, staff data, assessment data, rostering, and mass scheduling. The Data & Information Systems Coordinator will also be responsible for building the master schedule, designing dynamic data dashboards, and creating innovative data solutions to meet the district's needs. Collaboration with district leadership and other staff is essential to ensure the effective use of data to support student achievement and district initiatives. Essential Performance Responsibilities
- Data Strategy Implementation:
- Implement the data strategy outlined and/or co-created with the Innovative Systems Officer to meet the district's demands.
- Anticipate upcoming data demands and offer innovative and timely solutions so that the data is readily available when needed.
- Co-create a data request workflow with the Innovative Systems Officer to prioritize strategic projects and make processes visible to the end user.
- eSchoolPLUS Management:
- Maintain and manage the district's student information system (eSchoolPLUS).
- Oversee data entry, validation, and accuracy of student records, ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal reporting requirements.
- Provide training and technical support to staff in the use of eSchoolPLUS, including resolving issues related to student records, attendance, grades, and scheduling.
- Ability to write Cognos Reports based on user demands and work in collaboration with the district report contractor.
- Work collaboratively with the EMIS Coordinator to review and audit EMIS submissions for data integrity.
- Assessment Data Management:
- Manage the collection, analysis, and reporting of assessment data
- Work closely with instructional leaders to provide accurate data for instructional decisions and student performance analysis.
- Create and maintain data reports to inform stakeholders about student progress and performance.
- Rostering & Scheduling:
- Collaborate with school administration to develop the master schedule, ensuring efficient use of resources and alignment with district priorities.
- Manage the mass scheduling process, including course placement and rostering, ensuring that students are accurately assigned to classes.
- Oversee the rostering process for online learning platforms and digital tools.
- Data Dashboards & Innovative Solutions:
- Design and implement dynamic data dashboards for district and school leadership, providing real-time insights into key performance metrics.
- Develop innovative data-driven solutions to enhance data availability, access, and utilization across the district.
- Ensure data integrity and security by developing and enforcing data governance policies.
- Data Integrity & Compliance:
- Perform regular audits of data to ensure accuracy and resolve discrepancies.
- Manage data imports, exports, and integrations with other district systems (e.g., learning management systems, Clever, Class Link, and assessment platforms).
- Ensure compliance with data privacy laws (e.g., FERPA) and district policies.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field.
- Proficiency in managing large datasets and working with data analysis tools.
- Strong understanding of PK-12 data processes, including student records, assessment data, rostering, and scheduling.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Looker Studio, Tableau, Power BI) and Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Data Science, Educational Technology, or a related field.
- Experience building master schedules and performing mass scheduling in a school setting.
- Experience with state and federal reporting requirements for K12 education.
- Experience working with eSchoolPLUS or similar student information systems.
- Familiarity with SQL Server and Cognos 11.
- Experience developing automated workflows and processes for data management.
