Purpose

Provide journey-level masonry support for campus facility renovation, repair, and construction projects. Provide diverse support to campus special events.

Responsibilities

* Install, modify, and repair facility masonry walls, floors, and structures. Provide support to facility renovation, repair, and construction projects in compliance with project documents and schedules. Repair campus masonry structures, with emphasis on restoring original architecture and function, within the limits of available materials.

* Assist other shop trades personnel with project-related duties, including asphalt and concrete construction or repair, interior demolition in support of facility renovations, installation or removal of scaffold, relocation of furniture and heavy equipment, and welding.

* Read, understand, and work from drawings, specifications, standards, and written or verbal instructions with or without direct supervision. Ensure projects are executed in accordance with project requirements, campus standards, and applicable codes.

* Provide special event support to campus departments, including construction/assembly of platforms, steps, and stages; delivery and setup of flags and banners; staging of barricades; tower lighting support; and other special requests.

* Promote and maintain frequent communications and positive relations with all stakeholders. Promote a culture of teamwork within shop and with other shops. Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure timely completion of projects. Emphasize accountability for meeting schedule commitments. Practice and promote the values and goals of the university and the hiring department.

* Provide timely and accurate processing of shop written and electronic documentation, including material requisitions, timesheets, and daily labor reports. Develop estimates and order materials. Assist team members in solving work-related problems at jobsites. Maintain high standards for employee conduct, productivity, and safety.

* Support zone maintenance shops and other campus departments in repair of campus facilities. Drive UT vehicle to and from job sites to deliver personnel, equipment, and materials. Drive off-campus to purchase and pickup materials and equipment for projects.

* Attend management-directed meetings and training. Participate on hiring committees. Comply with safety standards and policies. Safely operate UT vehicles. Accomplish other duties as assigned. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work required.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. At least three years journey-level commercial or industrial masonry experience. Before final offer can be made, successful applicant must provide a current driver's license and acceptable driving record for the most recent 36 months. Texas driving history will be confirmed online during selection process; applicant must provide out-of-state driving history, if previously licensed in another state. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

More than five years journey-level commercial or industrial masonry experience. Demonstrated ability to produce quality work from project drawings, specifications, construction standards, and/or written-verbal instructions with or without direct supervision. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and communicate with building clients, co-workers, and supervisors in a team environment. Experience working in a large university, commercial, or industrial physical plant.

Driving Required

This job requires a class C operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).

Salary Range

$54,000 + depending on qualifications
