Essential Functions:
* Complete maintenance requests as scheduled through our work order system. Work Orders consist of various duties in the installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures. Complete time and material usage reports. Assist in maintaining material stock for related work. Review of completed work and cleanup of work areas upon completion.
* Interpret and update panel schedules and system drawings. Installs, tests, and troubleshoots circuits and equipment using appropriate tools and instruments. Ensure all work meets the current National Electric Code.
* Maintain and repair campus distribution substations. Primary distribution is 23kV, Secondary 4160V. Maintain and test all dry and oil-filled transformers. Locate and identify underground electricity for OUPS. Locate underground faults and make repairs.
* Assist with testing, inspection, and repair of campus fire alarm systems.
* Plan layouts and installation of conduits for campus surveillance and other low-voltage electronic systems. Assist project managers and contractors with project electrical needs.
* 5% Respond to electrical emergencies or outages during off shift periods. Provide coverage and electrical support for campus and sporting events.
Additional Position Information:
Education:
Requires high school diploma or GED and successful completion of the 3rd year of the designated electrical apprenticeship program for electricians or a combination of education from a recognized school and electrician experience totaling 6 years or more.
Licenses/Certifications/Requirements:
Valid Ohio driver's license. Fire alarm certification is preferred.
Experience:
Requires a minimum of 4 years performing the work of an electrician. Ability to operate and use standard powered and nonpowered electrical equipment required. Ability to perform mathematics associated with trade applications (fractions, ratios, percentages) required. Ability to read, write, and accurately follow oral, written, and graphic instructions required. Prior experience in higher education, commercial, industrial, or a large multi-building maintenance environment preferred.
Leadership:
Provide guidance to nonexempt staff including general scheduling, assigning tasks, and monitoring work activities.
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift 80 pounds without assistance and demonstrate bending, crouching, and lifting. Must be able to climb a ladder,
scaffolding and work on rooftops.
Working Conditions:
Routine exposure to heat, cold, moisture/wetness, inclement weather, noise, and air pollution. May involve exposure to chemical
substances, hazards, and moving parts. Overtime/Call-ins may be mandatory based on university needs.
Salary:
This is a Union position with a salary Grade of 09. Salary determination is subject to the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement. External applicants - Starting salary is $21.54 hourly.
