JOB ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- Associate degree in a Machining Technology program or equivalent education
- Minimum of five years experience in machining
- Successful completion of a hands-on project
- Passing score on a Machinist test
- Qualification assessment interview
- US citizenship and ability to obtain DoD Secret level clearance
- Effective written and oral communication skills
SUMMARY
Self-directed machinist to fabricate and/or modify complex items (parts, fixtures, tools, etc) from a variety of materials to support manufacturing operations (engineering, maintenance, and production). The job requires a thorough working knowledge of mathematics, metal properties, and machining procedures.
Work is performed in a manufacturing environment that may include wearing personal protective equipment (such as steel toe shoes, safety glasses, safety gloves, ear plugs, hard-hat, etc), working with/near and disposal of hazardous material, and recurring lifting (50-75 pounds), gripping, standing, bending, squatting, pulling, pushing, and reaching.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interpret, understand, and work from various forms of documentation (drawings, sketches, sample parts, etc)
- Manual and CNC Machining
- Setup equipment, select tools, and efficiently perform precision machining operations
- Measure, examine, or test completed units to check for defects and ensure conformance to requirements
- Order, manage, and maintain machining materials, supplies, and tools
- Support other maintenance and production areas based upon business needs
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The working environment is a machine shop area. Typical characteristics for this environment include:
- Personal Protective Equipment: May include safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes, ear plugs, hard hat, respirator
- Hazardous Material: Working with or near and disposing of hazardous material may be required
- Equipment Hazards: Working around rotating, spinning, oscillating, etc. machinery
- Physical Requirements: Lifting (50 – 60 pounds individually), frequent standing, sitting, gripping, bending, squatting, climbing, pulling, pushing, and reaching
- Planned and unplanned overtime may be required
