Marine Spill Response Corporation is a not-for-profit, U.S. Coast Guard Classified Oil Spill Removal Organization. MSRC was formed in 1990 to offer oil spill response services and mitigate damage to the environment. MSRC offers a full range of oil spill response capabilities intended to help meet the planning criteria of the Oil Pollution Act of 1990.
MSRC is offering an excellent career opportunity for a Mate with the leader in the oil spill response industry. Working a rotational schedule of three weeks on and three weeks off, the Mate will work under the direction of the Master, and is responsible for the sanitation, condition, appearance, and safety of the vessel, including the maintenance of the hull, safety equipment, lifesaving equipment, damage control, and firefighting apparatus required by the U.S.C.G., and maintaining the highest standards of safety and ensuring the vessel condition is consistent with company standards.
Requirements:
* Current USCG license of Mate 500/GRT (minimum)
* Valid Endorsements under the STCW required: II/1 OICNW, II/4 RFPNW, II/5 Able Seafarer-Deck, IV/2 GMDSS, VI/1 BST, VI/II PSC and VI/3, VI/4.
* Radar, ARPA (required)
* VSO (preferred)
* Valid USCG medical certificate with current Domestic AND STCW dates required.
* TWIC card (required)
* Experience with Caterpillar engines, hydraulic, electrical and oil recovery equipment (preferred)
* Capable of prolonged, strenuous work onboard vessels at sea
* Effective leadership skills, and written and oral communications skills
* Ability to operate industrial equipment and their systems safely
* Ability to operate a personal computer
* Employment is contingent upon:
* completion of a successful background check,
* pre-hire medical exam and drug screen;
* ability to obtain a valid drivers license and U.S. Passport
Responsibilities:
* Responsible for supervising the entire Deck Department
* Responsible for the sanitation, condition, appearance, and safety of the vessel.
* Ensure that all maintenance checks are performed on all deck and hull equipment.
* Ensure that the vessel is loaded in compliance with the vessel's stability plan and that the stowage plan is safe under current ballast and fuel conditions.
* Maintain the navigational charts, navigational compasses, and all other navigation equipment.
* Assist in verifying that all logs and other documents are properly maintained.
* At the direction of the Master, the Mate will dispense onboard medical treatment, consistent with his/her training and qualifications.
Physical Requirements Include, Among Others:
* Requires standing, lifting up to 45lbs
* Requires the ability to wear the personnel protective equipment prescribed by posted signs and written instruction
* Able to work in various temperatures indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions including heat, cold, rain or dry environments
* Ability to perform work in various sea conditions, under all environmental conditions, often wet/oily decks
