Job Title: Material Handler

Classification:Hourly

Reports To: Warehouse Supervisor

Department: Warehouse

Summary of Job

The material handler is responsible for safe and efficient receiving, handling, and storage of all products within the warehouse.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Knowledge and practice of all applicable safety rules and procedures including but not limited to: Safe lifting practices, Safe product storage methods and Safe operation of forklift and electric tugger.
  • Ability to operate forklift and tugger safely and efficiently. Must pass certification for forklift and tugger operation. Willing to train the right person.
  • Ability to store all finished goods safely and efficiently from Visalia manufacturing lines.
  • Knowledge of all stock locations/ products and area designations.
  • Knowledge of correct labeling requirements.
  • Ability to identify and differentiate various inventoried products and characteristics.
  • Ability to read and understand all applicable forms and paperwork involved in Warehousing Department, including but not limited to Material Transfer forms and Production Worksheets.
  • Take initiative to maintain good 5S housekeeping and a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Take initiative to make constructive suggestions involving safety and productivity improvements.
  • Ability to load trucks safely and efficiently.
  • Support, demonstrate and promote Pregis' core values: integrity, collaboration, customer focus and innovation.

Adheres to the highest standards of company safety programs, guidelines, rules, and regulations including all personal protective equipment (PPE) requirementsAttends meetings and completes safety trainings as required.Performs other job-related duties as assigned.   • Ability to communicate with team effectively and respectfully and during shift transition.
  • Prior SAP or similar ERP system knowledge.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, follow standardized work instructions and adhere to safe work practices in a continuous improvement culture.

  • Exposure to moving equipment
  • Inside work
  • Heat may exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Humidity may exceed 80%
  • Noise may exceed 85dB+

Physical Characteristics

  • Frequent standing, stooping, squatting, up to 75%.
  • Repetitive use of wrist, hands, and fingers.
  • Frequent bending and some kneeling.
  • Frequent use of shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, and ankles.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling (up to 30-50 lbs.).
  • Extensive walking and standing on cement floors.
  • Machines or equipment used on this job: forklift, electric tug, carts, order picker, label printer and computer.
  • Occasional bending and twisting.
  • Occasional typing/keyboarding/preparing documents, voice- assisted as needed.

Position Type

  • Full time
  • Shift work 8 hours
  • Overtime expected per business demand

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 1 year warehousing experience preferred including forklift certification and computer experience
  • Must be dependable, responsible, and willing to adhere to all Pregis policies and procedures
