We also use applied technology expertise to serve the defense, entertainment, material handling, aerospace, science, and renewable energy industries.Position SummaryThe Material Manager controls all aspects of materials, from raw material purchases and delivery through shipments to customers. Acts as the owner of the procurement system and oversees procurement, planning, scheduling, inventory, and shipping/receiving.Responsible for all aspects of the procurement process and system; directs planning of procurement and raw materials, including subcontracted services; responsible for inventory accuracy and turns; ensures that every step of the procurement and material management processes are functioning effectively to avoid costly delays and lost sales opportunities due to availability of materials; and communicates needs and objectives to key internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, sales, service, manufacturing and management.Duties & ResponsibilitiesESSENTIAL•Oversee the procurement, storage, and distribution of materials required for manufacturing or production.•Manage inventory levels to ensure adequate supply of materials while avoiding overstocking.•Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials.•Develop and implement strategies for inventory control, reducing waste, and improving material turnover.•Maintain accurate records of material usage, stock levels, and supplier performance.•Analyze material demand and prepare accurate forecasts to meet production requirements.•Ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards in material handling.•Collaborate with production, engineering, and purchasing teams to align material availability with project timelines.•Negotiate with suppliers to secure favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.•Prepare and manage budgets related to material costs and inventory control.•Manage and mentor a team of material handlers and warehouse staff.•Dedicated to pursuit of continuous improvement.•Ability to communicate effectively and work well within a team-based environment.•Ability to analyze data and make decisions based on material needs, trends, and cost factors.•Ensure that the Safety policies and procedures are understood and adhered to ensuring a safe working environment.•Additional duties as assigned.QualificationsREQUIRED•Bachelor's degree in production, Operations, Business Management, or relevant field. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.•Minimum 5 years of management experience.•Proven experience as a Material Manager, Supply Chain Manager, or similar role in a manufacturing or production environment.•Strong knowledge of inventory management software and tools.•Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.•Strong leadership and team management abilities.•Knowledge of safety and quality standards in material handling.•Must be able to acquire and maintain an active TWIC.DESIRED•Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, etc.).•Certification in supply chain management (e.g., APICS, CSCP) is a plus.•Familiarity with Lean or Six Sigma methodologies for process improvement.
