**Responsibilities**

Materials Handlers work involves receiving, storing, and assembling for issue, shipment, and distribution, a wide variety of bin and bulk supplies, materials, equipment, and commodities using mechanized, automated, and manual material moving equipment, devices, and systems. The work requires general knowledge of the methods used in processing, handling, and storing of materials and equipment through a supply facility; the ability to log receipt, storage, and shipment data; and the ability to use manual or mechanized equipment to move, stack, bin, and position materials and equipment. You will also organize, arrange, and remove stock in storage areas in accordance with established procedures to prevent damage, deterioration, and loss. Most work requires the incidental or regular use of forklifts and motor vehicles.

**As a Materials Handler (Forklift Operator) you will:**

+ Load and unload trucks, carts, other conveyance, or pallets loaded with products and move, pack, sort, and arrange a large variety of packages weighing up to 70 pounds.

+ Select and set up proper storage areas for material considering size, shape, quantity, use, and possibility of damage or deterioration.

+ Use handcarts, dollies, and other manual and powered equipment to move stock.

+ Receive stock movement orders through paper orders, automated, or radio frequency devices and identify location of items using a computer locator system or RF equipment.

+ Pull stock for bulk material orders and ensure the proper items are selected, accurate quantities are assembled for issue and shipments are loaded into trailers properly to minimize damage.

+ Scan bar codes on completed orders to generate manifests or other documents. May cluster pick several orders simultaneously following established procedures.

+ Operate various stock moving equipment (e.g., forklifts, swing reach stackers, and stock selectors) and perform routine maintenance and cleaning on equipment used including checking brakes, transmission, to allow smooth and efficient performance.

+ Receive, inspect, and accept incoming shipments where you will take appropriate corrective action such as re-palletizing or shrink-wrapping when necessary, follow the receipt, inspection, and acceptance procedures prior to placing products into inventory. **PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:**Physical Effort includes standing, stooping, bending, climbing, crawling, and kneeling for extended periods in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for prolonged periods while receiving, stocking, unloading, and/or loading trucks. Frequently lifts and carries materials that weigh up to 70 pounds and at times may handle items weighing over 70 pounds.

**BASIC REQUIREMENTS**

+ To qualify, no specific length of experience or training is required, however you must be able to demonstrate through information provided in your resume that you possess sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position without more than normal supervision. **ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:**

**WG-05 LEVEL:** Able to perform work that involves receiving, storing, assembling and loading/unloading a wide variety of supplies, materials, and equipment, for issue, shipment, and distribution. General knowledge of the methods used in processing, handling, and storing of materials and equipment through a supply facility. Have awareness of safety procedures to recognize and report workplace hazards, move materials safely and prevent damage during transport. Ability to interpret instructions and specifications (other than blueprints), read orders and write labels. Capable of operating mechanized, automated, and manual material moving equipment, devices, and systems. Operating weight-handling devices such as electric hand trucks, pallet jacks, and dollies to move heavy loads. Simple arithmetic and counting techniques to select accurate order quantities.
