For more information, go to: Description of Job The Division of Disease Control and Public Health Response exists to ensure that the Department has the ability to effectively monitor, detect, diagnose, prepare for, and nimbly respond to, all types of conditions and events that impact the public's health. The Work Unit The operations branch within the Colorado State Lab exists to manage building operations, warehouse, supplies, logistics and courier dispatch. The operations branch is also a liaison between the Laboratory programs and external stakeholders. The State Lab is responsible for providing public health laboratory testing services for the state of Colorado. The unit receives and distributes test kits and related supplies to local public health agencies and medical laboratories. About the Position Position disinfects of infectious waste, storage of chemical waste, and sanitization of glassware for multiple lab units. Receives and distributes all items coming into the laboratory. Sends out lab related supplies to stakeholders. In addition to duties for Central Services this position supervises day to day operation of vaccine distribution across Colorado, stores and and handles vaccines onsite. Packing and sending supplies requested by internal and external teams and maintaining sufficient inventory of these supplies. What you will be doing
  • Decontaminates biohazardous materials using proper disposal methods and maintains the cleanliness and sterilization of equipment and glassware through the use of proper dishwashing settings.
  • Operates autoclave and dishwashers.
  • Properly bags and secures medical waste for pickup and disposal per CFR 49 requirements.
  • Cleans and sanitizes glassware per laboratory specifications.
  • Picks up and properly stores chemical waste according to it PH level, volume and composition.
  • Keeps accurate records of all chemical and biological waste procedures.
  • Ensures thermometers for all programs are calibrated.
  • Receives all incoming packages and mail and delivers them to the correct locations in the lab.
  • Sends out collection supplies to external stakeholders. Stamps and sends out mail for lab results and billing.
  • Answers questions via email about all items being sent from the lab.
  • Keeps track of inventory of items Central Services sends out to stakeholders.
  • Assist with the moving of all equipment.
  • Overseeing the balance and supply of testing bottles for internal and external needs.
  • Ensuring the vaccines and treatments are stored, handled, and transported appropriately.
  • Prepares vaccine and treatments for shipping to external sites.
  • Maintains records of lot numbers and vaccine temperature to ensure the vaccine is viable when it is received at the provider sites.
  • Responsible for storing other treatments such as immunoglobulin, and helps coordinate the distribution of any treatment stored at the State Lab.
  • Sets up and breakdown coolers and temperature logging devices used for vaccine transportation on a daily basis.
  • Reports temperature excursions to CDPHE immunization team and manufactures of the vaccine if any occur for any of onsite refrigerators or freezers.
  • Properly handle and manage stored vaccines.
  • Creates labels and transport paperwork for all transfers.
  • Notifies the immunization branch to order vaccine to ensure there is enough for distribution.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Years of relevant State of Colorado Service
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures
  • Has previous experience handling vaccines and other pharmaceuticals
  • Knowledge of safety practices in handling a variety of materials
  • Knowledge of basic distribution practices
  • Ability to use proper lifting techniques
