⚡ Position Summary:
The Materials Scientist will be instrumental in advancing the company's cathode material offerings. This is a hands-on role, involving laboratory work, experimental research, and data analysis. You will lead efforts in cathode synthesis, electrode formulation, and electrolyte development, collaborating closely with technicians, data scientists, and engineers to deliver high-performance materials.
⚡ Key Responsibilities:
● Develop and test hypotheses to improve cathode materials, focusing on powder synthesis and electrochemical testing.
● Analyze data from electrochemical and material characterization processes to drive data-driven recommendations for improvements.
● Design and execute experiments (DOE) to optimize processes using statistical methods.
● Lead technicians in the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment, ensuring safety and adherence to protocols.
● Prepare detailed documentation of experimental procedures, data analysis methods, and results for stakeholders.
⚡ Required Qualifications:
● 3-5 years of experience in battery materials or a related industry, focused on research and commercialization.
● 4+ years of hands-on experience in materials synthesis, electrochemistry, and battery science.
● Proven ability to lead in a laboratory setting with direct, hands-on involvement.
● Proficiency in experimental design, statistical analysis, and interpreting data.
● Bachelor's or advanced degree in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
● Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly present both written and verbal reports.
● Proven ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
● Start-up or early-stage company experience is preferred.
⚡ Additional Preferences:
● Hands-on experience leading pilot-scale experiments in material processing and synthesis.
● Strong aptitude for equipment operation, installation, and troubleshooting.
● Familiarity with Python and/or SQL is a plus.
⚡ Requirements – Geographic and Physical:
● Must be based in or willing to relocate to Pittsburgh, PA.
● Ability to move frequently between office and factory floor environments.
● Occasional domestic and international travel to suppliers and manufacturing sites.
