The NM Department of Health's Family Health Bureau works to improve the health of women, children and families in New Mexico through policy, surveillance, assurance, and direct services provided to reproductive age women, infants, children, adolescents and their families, including children and youth with special healthcare needs. Why does the job exist?This position provides complex data analysis, data management, and data linkage for the Maternal Child Health (MCH) Epidemiology Program in the Family Health Bureau. The incumbent prepares analysis and linkage codes for survey and administrative data matching among large datasets. This position manages objectives and analysis plans for the State Systems Development Initiative (SSDI) data dissemination requirements, including support to objectives of the Title V Maternal Child Health Block Grant and for the Family Success Lab. How does it get done?1. Reviews and updates analysis plans for the Family Success Lab (inter-agency data linkage project) and State Systems Development Initiative (SSDI grant);2. Manages large datasets and conducts linkages using MatchPro, Link King or available software packages;3. Collaborates with agency and program epidemiologists to prepare statistical programs generating data queries and dashboards for maternal child health datasets;4. Prepares descriptive and complex data analysis summaries, reports, data visualizations, and presentations for statewide distribution; contributes to data-to-action and policy applications/translation to inform program or policy improvement;5. Provides technical expertise to build program capacity for data linkage, data queries and data portals; maintains statistical programs from routine linkages and potential data integration. Who are the customers?Moms, children and families in New Mexico; health providers with clinical or birth worker roles; data and health service consumers across the state. Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate is a maternal and child health or perinatal data specialist with demonstrated experience in complex survey and administrative data analysis in a public health setting.The desired candidate has experience with state Title V (including SSDI) or Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System grants. Minimum QualificationMaster's Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Sciences, Social Sciences, or Statistics and two (2) years in Public Health to include data analysis and linking methodology. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field andor direct experience in this occupation totaling eight (8) years may substitute for the required education and experience. Employment RequirementsMust possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Working ConditionsWork is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Lifting up to twenty-five (25) pounds and some travel with the occasional overnight stay may be required.
