Salary: Depends on QualificationsLocation : Burlington, NCJob Type: Full-Time ExemptJob Number: 2024-00083Division: Business, Arts & SciencesDepartment: MathematicsOpening Date: 08/07/2024Closing Date: ContinuousDescription Re-posted on 10/21/2024OPEN UNTIL FILLEDFull-time mathematics faculty are responsible for teaching a variety of undergraduate mathematics courses, including developmental-level mathematics, math measurement & literacy, algebra and trigonometry, quantitative literacy, statistics, precalculus, calculus, and differential equations. Faculty will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging and informative mathematics courses that align with the college's curriculum and learning objectives; designing and grading assignments, exams, and other assessments to evaluate student performance and learning; providing academic advising; participating in department and college-wide meetings, initiatives, and service activities; and collaborating with other faculty members to enhance the mathematics offerings at the College.As salaried employees, Faculty work a minimum of 40 hours per week, with a required minimum of 20-24 on-campus hours Monday through Friday. In certain program areas and during certain periods, such as advising and registration, Faculty may be required to work more than the minimum on-campus hours. Focused on student success, Faculty support the College's mission by facilitating student learning inside and outside of class through high-quality instruction, academic support, and informed advising.   • Providing appropriate and effective instruction.
  • Teaching classes per the College's teaching load formula in combinations including day, evening, weekend, off-campus, and online as the College requires.
  • Providing relevant learning opportunities that promote student engagement and retention.
  • Staying current in their field and in teaching methodology.
  • Creating meaningful assessments and evaluating student work according to departmental standards.
  • Maintaining accurate student records, including course attendance.
  • Being available to students during office or lab hours for assistance.
  • Providing regular grade updates through Moodle gradebook.
  • 2. Providing accurate, informed advising.
  • Maintaining accessible office or lab hours.
  • Understanding College policies and procedures, degree requirements, and transfer agreements.
  • Providing students with current information regarding career opportunities, as appropriate.
  • Being informed about College services and support for students.Recruiting students, including participation in open houses, College events, and recruitment fairs.

  • Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThis position does not have supervisory responsibilities.Typical QualificationsEducation and/or ExperienceFaculty must hold a Master's degree in Mathematics. Candidates with a Master's degree in a related field may also be considered, provided they have completed at least 18 graduate credit hours in Mathematics. Faculty should have prior college level teaching experience, a strong academic foundation, and the ability to teach a range of undergraduate mathematics courses.
