Who We Are

For more than 25 years, Aptima's mission has been to improve and optimize performance in mission-critical, technology-intensive environments. We apply deep expertise in how humans think, learn, and perform to today's challenges. Whether for fighter pilots functioning in the cockpit, medical staff in the ICU, or teams collaborating across distributed networks, we are working to ensure synergy, enhance productivity, and accelerate learning, training, and readiness.

Our culture is rooted in our core values, which have evolved over time and our employees have embraced - Integrity, Ingenuity, Excellence, Respect, Inclusion, Teamwork. At our core, Aptima researches, develops, and innovates within an area that engineering firms largely ignore, the human component. To impact the world in meaningful ways, you must bring those innovations to light, and that is precisely what we do.

How You'll Make an Impact

You will be working with a diverse team of engineers, scientists, and military personnel to build a complex ecosystem for flight training consisting of a mix of legacy technologies and less mature but innovative technologies, that will be required to share data at different frequencies across different classification levels. You will be responsible for leading the development of the overarching ecosystem model, that will integrate other models from other partner companies and military agencies.

You Can Expect To

  • Model Development and Integration: design, develop, and maintain complex system models using MBSE methodologies and SysML. Ensure that these models accurately represent the requirements and are fully integrated with other models from different systems and domains. Establish policies and procedures to implement and sustain sound MBSE practices.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: work closely with other engineers, including software, hardware, and network engineers, to integrate systems and troubleshoot any issues that arise during the integration process. Collaborate with stakeholders from various departments to ensure the system meets all operational requirements.
  • Requirement Analysis: analyze user requirements and existing system capabilities to determine feasibility of requirements within time and cost constraints. Convert these requirements into actionable system specifications and modeling criteria.
  • Simulation and Testing: develop and implement simulation models to test system effectiveness and reliability. Use these models to predict outcomes and refine system parameters before deployment.
  • Documentation: produce detailed documentation on system design and architecture, including technical manuals, user guides, and other relevant materials. Ensure all documentation is clear, accurate, and compliant with industry standards.
  • Training and Support: provide technical support and training to end-users and stakeholders. This includes creating training materials, conducting workshops or webinars, and offering ongoing support for system upgrades and maintenance.
  • Continuous Improvement: monitor industry trends in MBSE and systems engineering to recommend and implement improvements to modeling practices and technologies. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • MBSE Proficiency: Extensive experience (e.g., 3+ years) with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools. Proficiency in SysML (Systems Modeling Language) is essential
  • Systems Integration Experience: Proven track record of integrating complex systems within multi-disciplinary environments. Ability to handle integration challenges, such as compatibility issues and cross-platform functionality
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to analyze system requirements and convert them into a coherent system model
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to articulate complex technical details and system requirements to non-technical stakeholders
  • Security Clearance: Active Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance at the Secret level. Higher clearances may be preferred or required depending on the project specifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Domain Expertise: Experience in the defense sector, particularly with military aviation training systems. Knowledge of specific DoD M&S systems (e.g., NGTS, AFSIM, VBS3) is highly desirable
  • Cyber Security Experience: Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure, data protection, cybersecurity and experience with Risk Management Frameworks (RMF) to obtain Authority to Operate (ATO)
  • Leadership Experience: Experience leading projects or teams, with the ability to mentor junior engineers and oversee multiple project elements concurrently
  • Higher Security Clearance: Active DoD security clearance at the TS/SCI level

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, national origin, disability, protected veteran status or any other status protected by applicable national, federal, state or local law.
