The MDS Coordinators are a critical part of this team.The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct and coordinate the development and completion of the resident assessment. MDS Coordinators are also responsible for tracking and reporting nursing quality indicators. This is done in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, regulations, and facility established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by Management. These staff members work under the direction of the Director of Nursing. MDS Responsibilities
  • Conduct and coordinate the development and completion of the Resident Assessment Instrument (RAI) in accordance with current, rules, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Work with the Interdisciplinary Care Plan Team in developing a comprehensive resident assessment and care plan for each resident.
  • Conduct or coordinate the interviewing of each resident for the resident's assessment.
  • Evaluate each resident's condition and pertinent medical data to determine any need for special assessment, i.e., Norton's, restraint behavior management, psychotropic drug use, etc.
  • Develop preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the nursing needs of each resident, utilizing the forms required by current rules or regulations and facility policies.
  • Ensure that each portion of the assessment is signed and dated by the person completing that portion of the RAI process.
  • Sign and date the assessment instrument to certify its completion.
  • Provide required information for the Facility's Quality Assurance Program.
MDS Qualifications
  • Current active RN MO LICENSE
  • MDS Coordinator experience
  • Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid regulations and benefit guidelines
