  • Critical Thinking - Over the duration of employment, the student will progressively develop enhanced critical thinking skills in order to advance his/her research project. These include, but are not limited to, performing literature searches, reading journal articles, and performing basic research. The student will work closely with a faculty research advisor to identify and develop these necessary skills.
  • Career and Self Development - Over the duration of employment, the student will develop, implement, and perform tasks of increasing complexity under the guidance of a faculty mentor. This will include, but is not limited to, conducting experiments, carrying out research, and technical writing.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated student to work in the mechanical vibration and material sciences area during AY2024-25. The student will be assigned one or more projects and will leverage his/her knowledge in the materials and vibration field in order to advance the project's goals. The student will have the opportunity to prepare documentation and give oral presentations that specifically highlights new knowledge gained over the course of the position. Work will include creating vibration experiments to augment the lecture. Material science work will include performing applied research in the area of Compression Stress Relaxation to model performance of various elastomers. This work will complement a graduate elastomers course as well as result in publications from characterizing various elastomers used in medical sterilizers. This experience will be of great value to engineering students as they enter the profession since significant exposure to the medical device industry will be obtained.This position may involve some or all of the following:
  • Take guidance from faculty mentor; attend meetings; work independently to achieve goals; other duties as assigned by faculty mentor within the scope, responsibility, and requirements of the position,
  • Prepare/give presentations in written and/or oral format,
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
