Position DetailsPosition Summary Position Title ME Student Worker (Dr. Saharan) Posting NumberDivision School of Engineering and Computing Department Col. of Engineering & Business Location Erie, Pa Position Summary Career Readiness Learning Objectives:Critical Thinking-Over the semester, the student will progressively develop enhanced critical thinking skills. The student will work closely with the faculty member to identify and develop these necessary skills.Career & Self Development - Over the duration of the semester, the student will develop, implement, and perform tasks of increasing complexity under the guidance of the faculty member. This will include, but is not limited to, undertaking new areas of research, planning and conducting experiments, and effectively interacting with fellow students.The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated student to work in the orthotic and prosthetic hand device design, advanced materials, and manufacturing areas during AY2024-25. The student will be assigned one or more projects and will leverage his/her knowledge in the mechanical engineering field in order to advance the project's goals. The student will have the opportunity to prepare documentation and give oral presentations that specifically highlight new knowledge gained over the course of the position. Work will include understanding the details of the orthotic and prosthetic hand device design and implementing this knowledge to prepare CAD design and fabricate the device, design test setup, and characterize smart actuators. Advanced Manufacturing work will include fabricating the device and testing novel material for application in the area of the project. This work will produce results allowing students to participate in publications and form the basis for external grants. This experience will be of great value to engineering students as they enter the profession since significant exposure to rehabilitation devices, advanced materials, and the manufacturing industry will be obtained.This position may involve some or all of the following:

Take guidance from faculty mentor; attend meetings; work independently to achieve goals; other duties as assigned by faculty mentor within the scope, responsibility, and requirements of the position,

Prepare/give presentations in written and/or oral format,

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of applications.
