Job Description:

A shop hourly position with the primary responsibilities of ensuring the accurate and timely kitting and movement of materials in support of the plant production lines.As an experienced mechanic, the Mechanic II has a high level of proficiency in how to effectively support the assembly and fabrication teams through accurate material movement, stockroom replenishment, and support of the shipping team.The successful candidate will be able to prioritize and flex to several workstations as needed.The Mechanic II models BAC's values of Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, and Driving Innovation to co-workers.The purpose for every position at BAC regardless of department or level can be summed up as doing the right thing in the right way.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Owns personal and team safety.Observes all safety rules and uses the proper safety equipment at all times.
  • Support the plant manufacturing process; provide a high level of customer focus to plant production.
  • Knowledgeable of and meets quality standards on a consistent basis.
  • Committed to achieving departmental safety goals.
  • Maintains and sustain 5's in the department.
  • Safety operate JIB cranes to lift, move, and position components.
  • Serve as a spotter for Shipping Team when clearing lines, loading trucks, or moving units in the yard, to reduce risk and prevent damage.
  • Accountable for department performance
  • Participate in efforts to continuously improve the Materials Team, resulting in cost outs and process improvements
  • Ability to support production through accurate material movement, stockroom replenishment, and support of the shipping team as required.
  • Accurately complete paperwork or online data entry required by department.
  • Execute movement of sheet metal material from the end of final weld to the assembly lines
  • Handle the movement of kitted material to the production departments
  • Ensure product is delivered to the correct location on time
  • Maintain a neat and orderly staging area for all material
  • Perform other duties as requested, directed and assigned.
  • Ensure individual activities embrace sustainability, reduce the impact on the environment, minimize waste, maximize recycling, minimize energy and water usage.
  • Support a culture of innovation through original thinking to improve processes methods, systems or services; translates new ideas into business opportunities.
NATURE & SCOPE This position will report to the Materials Supervisor or Group Leader as assigned.Work will primarily be within the Materials Department, and can vary between material movement, shipping, kitting, and receiving as needed.May be assigned the training and mentoring of junior mechanics. KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
  • Prior Supply Chain experience preferred; Demonstrated competent writing skills including the ability to document a process in a logical and coherent manner.Ability to communicate to supervisors and co-workers with written memos or email that are professional, concise, and clearly understood.
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills including the ability to share information verbally with BAC customer or co-worker that is professional, clearly understood and technically accurate.
  • Competent in math including: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractional computations, and fraction to decimal conversions.
  • Familiar with appropriate procedures, policies, and standard work instructions for the area to ensure quality
  • Thorough knowledge of all hazards related to cranes, fixtures and related safety sensitive areas of the department and plant.
  • Customer focus with demonstrated desire to meet internal customer needs.
  • Must be flexible and able to adapt quickly to change.
  • Works independently; exhibits sound judgment and displays excellent prioritization skills.
  • Ability to safely operate powered industrial equipment, including but not limited to, forklifts, tuggers, the crown, stock picker and walkie.
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret various plant communications, including but not limited to, the production schedule, fab sheets, and related job paperwork.
  • Knowledgeable of inventory locations, material delivery points, and when and how a line indexes.
  • Understanding of elementary and intermediate LEAN principles including 5S, Kanban, and basic continuous improvement techniques.
  • Familiar with all appropriate procedures, policies, and instructions of ISO for area of assignment to ensure quality.
  • Demonstrated competence in BAC quality procedures and processes to follow when a quality issue is identified.
  • Computer skills include competence in locating relevant instructions and forms.
WORKING CONDITIONS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.The working environment includes lifting up to 50lbs.Standing is to be expected up to 80% of the time.Additional activities include: walking, reaching, bending, stooping, and sitting.Fine hand manipulation of controls is needed as well as hand eye coordination to perform changes.Working hours can include any of three shifts and generally are scheduled for forty hours a week.Some weekend overtime is to be expected.Working temperatures include both wide fluctuations within the plant as well as ambient outside temperatures.
