Job Description:

The Mechanic Assistant is responsible for performing preventative maintenance services on equipment, picking up parts from the vendor and assist the Grounds Equipment Mechanic with other services for the Parks and Recreation Department. This position will work an average of 20 hours per week.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a self-starter with working knowledge of basic tools and shop mechanic equipment. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a small engine or automotive field performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance. Flexibility in work hours and shifts will be important to accommodate this position.

Examination Process

Only a limited number of the most highly qualified applicants meeting the City's requirements will be invited for an interview. Examination process for this position will include: Panel Interview

* Inspect, diagnose, and locate mechanical malfunctions; replace or repair faulty parts including bearings, gaskets, belts, gears and blades

* Maintain, troubleshoot and repair a variety of park related equipment including mowers, weeding machines, chain saws, blowers, fertilizer and spraying

* Clean tools and equipment, empty trash and recycle bins, sweep and mop floors, bathroom clean up

* Pick up parts from vendors

Experience working in a a small engine or automotive field highly preferred.
