What you will do for Harris County Precinct 4 (HCP4)
Precinct 4 is seeking a motivated and highly driven Mechanic to join our Road & Bridge (R&B) team. As a Mechanic you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing all machinery and vehicles.
You must have the ability to work diligently in a fast-paced environment and have a strong commitment to safety. A strong work ethic, initiative, a willingness to learn, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role. Candidate must have a solid knowledge of basic mechanic's tools, service, and diagnostic equipment.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties listed below are only examples of the various assignments that may be performed:
* Work diligently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a strong commitment to safety.
* Inspect vehicle engine and mechanical/electrical components to diagnose issues accurately.
* Inspect vehicle computer and electronic systems to repair, maintain and upgrade.
* Conduct routine maintenance work (replacing fluids, lubricating parts etc.).
* Design a plan of action for all maintenance tasks and upgrades.
* Repair or replace broken or dysfunctional parts and fix issues (e.g. leaks).
* Assemble mechanical components according to specifications.
* Examine machines and oversee diagnostic tests to determine functionality problems.
* Maintain work logs, repairs, and maintenance records.
* Maintain equipment and tools in good condition.
* Monitor inventory and order new parts when necessary.
* Offer consultation on maintenance and preventative procedures to machine and vehicle end users.
* Perform any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned.

Requirements
Education & Experience:
* One-year certificate from college or technical school
OR
* Minimum of three (3) months related experience and/or training as a mechanic
Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for one another.

Experience:

Work Environment and Physical Demands:
* Work is on sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals, dust, fumes, and combustible materials.
* Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures.
* Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g., hard hats, respirator masks, gloves, etc.)
* Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted, 100 pounds with assistance rarely; carrying tools, materials, and equipment over rough terrain; climbing, reaching and bending.
* Frequently required to walk, sit, talk, drive, hear, bend, stoop, twist, and balance; need the ability to occasionally kneel and crawl; need the ability to grasp manual controls and the ability to use foot controls and operate gas, diesel, and electrically powered equipment.
