Description
This position provides assistance to mechanics in the repair and maintenance of department vehicles and equipment.
Job Responsibilities
* Assists in repair and overhauling truck brakes and clutches.
* Assists in repairing of hydraulic and electrical systems on heavy road equipment and diesel vehicles.
* Operates testing equipment to troubleshoot and diagnoses equipment failures.
* Assists in replacing water and fuel pumps.
* Performs field repairs of disabled vehicles and equipment.
* Completes daily activity reports.
* Assists in performing transmission and engine repairs.
* Repairs and balances tires.
* Repairs gas operated weedeaters and chain saws.
* Assists in rebuilding front suspensions and differentials.
* Assists in replacing starters and alternators.
* Assists in replacing heater cores, heater hoses and radiator hoses.
* Assists in repairing exhaust systems.
* Replaces broken glass.
* Maintains tools and mechanic shop.
* Operates road equipment and vehicles for testing purposes.
* Able to report regularly for work and be on time.
* Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
* High School Diploma/GED
* 1+ years of experience using hand and power tools
* 1+ years of experience in the maintenance of tools and equipment
* 1+ years of experience in general fleet maintenance jobs
* Must have basic computer skills
* Ability to lift 50 lbs
* Must pass a Criminal Background check.
* Must pass a driver's license background check.
* Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
* Must be able to pass alcohol and drug testing.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
* The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs and operates tools or equipment.
* The work is typically performed in a service center occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery and chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc.
