Most work is performed based on prior experience. The employee is expected to resolve problems of medium difficulty with assistance while others may be referred to a supervisor. The employee receives general supervision and work is occasionally reviewed while in progress. REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or carry up to and over 50 pounds.
- Must be able to occasionally push or pull up to and over 50 pounds.
- Must be able to occasionally perform the following: sit, kneel, stand, walk, climbing, crawling and work while standing on ladders
- Must be able to repetitively use both hands.
- Must be able to climb ladders.
- Must have or be able to obtain a class B commercial driver license with S, P & N endorsements.
REPORTS TO: Shop Foreman JOB GOAL: Performs vehicle maintenance: Refuels buses, checks fluids, changes tires as required, diagnoses minor and frequently occurring mechanical problems. Repairs and replaces damaged vehicle body parts. Performs duties in the operation, repair and maintenance of vehicles in the school transportation program. Performs general maintenance as required. Installs engines, transmissions and parts as needed. ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:
- Drives fuel truck, refuels buses, checks fluids and changes tires as required
- Diagnoses minor and frequently occurring mechanical problems
- Repairs and replaces damaged vehicle body parts
- Performs preventive maintenance procedures in accordance to state guidelines
- Performs North Carolina Vehicle inspection on buses
- Repairs and replace electrical components
- Installs engines, transmissions and parts as needed.
- Attends and successfully completes all training activities as required to improve ability and knowledge in performance of work duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Basic knowledge of school bus and vehicles operation and maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of the tools and equipment used in automotive repair shops.
- Basic knowledge of the methods of adjusting and repairing the electrical and generating systems of automotive equipment.
- Ability learn and determine appropriate methods to repair improperly operating automotive equipment.
- Ability learn to comprehend and apply North Carolina Inspection Law.
- Skill to physically perform manual tasks associated with engine maintenance and vehicle body repair.
- Ability to read and comprehend technical materials.
- Sufficient educations and experience to demonstrate possession of the needed knowledge and abilities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Appropriate North Carolina driver's license for the weight and type of vehicles operated as required by the Department of Motor Vehicles.
