The Opportunity: Mechanic
The Port of Virginia - Virginia International Terminals is seeking a Mechanic at Virginia Inland Port. This individual will perform maintenance on machinery and equipment such as straddle carriers, cranes, forklifts and hustler trucks.
What You'll Do: Responsibilities
* Work under established standard operating procedures and safety guidelines and rules.
* Perform simple to advanced repairs and calibrations for various equipment and machinery.
* Troubleshoot and diagnose causes of equipment and machinery failures and apply corrective actions.
* Resolve equipment breakdowns in efforts to minimize downtime.
* Start all equipment at the beginning of each day.
* Ensure all equipment is filled with gas.
* Perform monthly PM's.
* Identify needed parts for the repair of cranes and hustlers.
* Keep aging cranes up and running to ensure proper function within specifications.
* Perform preventative maintenance as needed to ensure all equipment operates at desired levels.
* Read and interpret electronic schematics.
* Ensures compliance with all security, safety, and environmental regulations and policies within work area at all times. This includes properly addressing issues through action or reporting issues and concerns to Manager.
* All other duties as assigned.
Who You Are: Qualifications
* High School diploma or GED equivalent required. At least 1 year of trade school is preferred.
* Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
* At least 1 year of experience is required.
