Job Duties

Our Northern Virginia District office is seeking a Mechanic for our Leesburg, Equipment Repair shop. This position will perform a wide variety of general maintenance and repair functions on VDOT's overall fleetIn this role one will promote and practice safe work habits while performing basic repairs and services on light, heavy duty, and diesel trucks; road construction and maintenance equipment; hydraulic systems; and electrical components.Specific Responsibilities will include:Diagnose and Repair – Diagnose, repair and complete basic tasks on a variety of equipment types such as tires, brakes, lighting, pumps and valves. Use basic scan tools to read and clear check engine light codes.Preventative Maintenance - Perform preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment according to the preventative maintenance schedule and guidelines. Maintain Documents and Records - Prepare, process, and maintain required maintenance and repair documentation. Generate documents and work orders in computer system. Perform time and leave entry in appropriate systems.Perform Manual Labor – Perform manual labor to complete assigned tasks. Complete assigned tasks and projects as instructed.

Minimum Qualifications

Skill in performing light vehicle services and repairs.Knowledge of general shop procedures.Ability to perform manual labor. Skill in the use of computers for research, navigation and communication.Ability to read, understand, and apply information from service and equipment manuals.Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to record and maintain data in computer systems.Safety shoes required. Valid driver's license.

Additional Considerations

Graduation from high school or an equivalent combination of education preferred; equivalent experience or training may substitute for education. Experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position. Experience with performing light vehicle services and repairs.Ability to obtain a VSP State Inspectors license within 2 years of employment.Ability to obtain a Commercial Drivers license.Knowledge of general welding practices.Knowledge of laptop and/or hand-held diagnostic programs .

You cannot operate commercial motor vehicles prior to receiving the necessary licensure and medical certification.
