Box 30035 Charlotte, NC 28230 Non Instructional/Operations - Maintenance Job Number460####### Start Date Open Date10/25/2023 Closing Date Summary: Under the direction of the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor the Equipment Mechanic performs diagnostics, repair and maintenance of district vehicles and equipment. Coordinates a preventative maintenance program for assigned fleet. Responds to all customer, concerns and issues. Essential Duties: (These duties represent a sample and may vary by position.) Coordinates a preventative maintenance program for assigned fleet Performs the diagnostic, repair and maintenance of district vehicles and equipment to include but not limited to small engines, agriculture tractors & heavy duty construction equipment, medium & heavy duty truck (class 7-8), light duty vehicles, trailer repairs (enclosed, open & box truck bodies), refrigerated trucks: Fuels, greases and lubricates automobiles, trucks, heavy equipment, off road equipment, agricultural and yard equipment, service batteries and other parts. Diagnoses and repairs gasoline engines, fuel systems, engine electronics, chassis electrical, steering, suspension, hydraulic brake systems, ABS brake systems, drive lines, differentials and axles Diagnoses and repairs diesel engines, fuel systems air brakes and auxiliary hydraulic systems Changes and repairs tires and install and service spark plugs, light bulbs, fan belts and other simple mechanical parts Services automotive equipment with fuel and oil; records amounts used; Repair yard, agricultural and off road equipment. Welds, fabricates and assembles parts for light equipment, fenders and bodywork; perform heli-arc, mig and acetylene gas welding and brazing Services maintains and repairs shop equipment Adheres to all safety rules, policies and procedures Completes daily logs and records related to equipment/vehicle repair/service Performs safety inspections on vehicles and equipment; perform routine repair work and reports safety and other priority repair work to supervisor. Requisitions, issues, pick-ups and delivers automotive and equipment parts and supplies. Assists in general maintenance and cleanliness of automotive shop area; sweep and wash windows; maintain shop and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Also assist in all aspects of inventory control as needed. Steam cleans and washes motorized equipment. Sweeps and vacuums car interiors. Assists in training new employees to proper procedures and assists other co-workers when necessary to complete the job Researches information online to facilitate repairs Performs related duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Minimum: High School diploma or GED required and; Three (3) years of verifiable experience in automotive, truck or heavy equipment repair Desirable: Vocational training in the mechanics trade or Assoc. Degree in Automotive Applied Sciences with two ASE Certifications (G1, A1 preferred). Possess all eight ASE Certifications preferred. Five (5) years of verifiable experience in automotive, truck or heavy equipment repair Licensing / Certification Requirements: Must possess a valid Driver's license. Asbestos Training 16 hours within the first 90 days of employment. Possession of, or ability to obtain the following within the first year of employment; an appropriate, NC State Vehicle Inspection license, ASE certifications (G1, A1 automobile and/or truck), Refrigerant Recovery & Recycling certification, fork Lift operator license and factory training relative to equipment currently in use. Also must be able to perform minimum computer skills to access repair manuals as well as operate diagnostic equipment and alignment machine. # of Jobs3.00 Salary: From17.11 Salary: To21.80 Teacher ScaleN Minimum Educational RequirementsHS diploma Term12 Month Additional Job Information Knowledge / Skills / Abilities: Lubricates systems and oils, greases and attachments used in lubricating automotive and related equipment Basics knowledge of hand and pneumatic tools, as well as specialized measuring and diagnostic equipment and standard shop equipment Basics components of automotive, truck, yard, agricultural and yard equipment Safe work practices Diagnoses, repair and service automotive, medium and heavy trucks, warehouse, off road, agricultural and yard equipment according to policies and procedures To access shop manuals, TSB's and related information on computer, as well as operate alignment machine computer system Keeps simple records Understands and follow oral and written instructions Communicates clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing Establishes and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work Adheres to all safety rules, policies and procedures Physical Requirements: Constant standing; Frequent crawling, kneeling, walking, bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, grasping, twisting, reaching, pushing, pulling. Occasional climbing and balancing; Exerts physical effort up to 4 hours of a normal work shifts in handling objects over 30 pounds.
