Openings as of 10/13/2024 Mechanic JobID: 1791 Position Type: Transportation/Mechanic Date Posted: 5/1/2024 Location: Student Transportation Services Job Title: Mechanic Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt/At-Will Reports To: Mechanic - Lead Pay Grade/Days: 309/226 Dept./School: Student Transportation Services Date Revised: April 2024 Primary Purpose: Perform major and minor mechanical repairs with minimal supervision to ensure proper performance and safety of district vehicles. Perform assigned work following established policies and procedures. Qualifications: Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED Valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire Must be eligible to drive based on the Texas DPS School Transportation Guidelines Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and perform repairs with general supervision Ability to operate equipment and tools involved in vehicle repair Ability to lift heavy equipment and vehicle parts Ability to pass alcohol and drug test Ability to pass required bus driver safety test Ability to pass required bus driver safety training Ability to operate a bus ASE Certification preferred Experience: Two (2) years of experience as a mechanic preferred Major Responsibilities and Duties: Maintenance and Repairs 1. Use diagnostic equipment to evaluate mechanical problems in vehicles. 2. Perform minor mechanical repairs preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and inspections on all district vehicles in a timely and efficient manner with minimal supervision. 3. Assist lead mechanic with completing major repairs. 4. Service vehicles according to established preventative maintenance schedule and maintain accurate, updated records of preventative maintenance. 5. Inspect vehicles and evaluate condition of systems, equipment, accessories, and lights; service as needed. 6. Perform welding and minor body work. 7. Service vehicles according to established preventive maintenance schedule. 8. Rotate and balance tires; change oil and filter lubricate vehicle parts: inspect and replace hoses,belts,mirrors,lamps,and maintain all fluid levels. 9. Perform preventive maintenance, including bleeding of air tanks, on shop equipment according to established schedule. Safety 10. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc. Operate tool, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures. 11. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately. 12. Keep shop, equipment and tools in safe operating condition and perform preventative maintenance on shop equipment according to established schedules. 13. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Other 14. Maintain accurate records of time and materials required to perform repairs and service. 15. Operate buses and other vehicles as needed. 16. Work irregular hours as needed. 17. Demonstrate respect, be courteous to peers and visitors and assist fellow workers willingly. 18.
