As a Mechanical Design Engineer, You Will:
- Design solutions following specified requirements.
- Integrate solutions with existing machine designs when applicable.
- Research new applications, materials, and machine designs.
- Create 3D models of parts and assemblies using Autodesk Inventor and Vault.
- Generate production drawings and .dxf files using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
- Preferably can perform FEA using ANSYS software.
- Develop test plans and prepare test reports.
- Work independently or collaboratively on projects as needed.
- Ensure that designs adhere to safety and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with manufacturing to address fabrication issues.
- Interface with external vendors for component sourcing and validation.
- Complete project tasks within defined timelines.
What You Will Bring to Derrick:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or technology
- Minimum 2-5 years of professional work experience in engineering design
- Advanced understanding of various manufacturing processes, such as sheet metal forming, welding, machining, casting, and injection molding.
- Proficiency in both 2D and 3D CAD software is required.
- Ability to conduct and interpret structural analysis of complex structures.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a creative mindset
- Ability to work independently on projects, demonstrating effective time management and handling multiple concurrent projects efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills with a focus on clarity and conciseness
- Attention to detail and a hands-on approach.
- Proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- A passion for mechanical design and a solid mechanical aptitude.
- Preferred experience with accelerometers, stress/strain gauges, and data acquisition systems
- Experience in FEA analysis is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Understanding GD&T for manufactured components and assemblies is beneficial but not required.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, assembly techniques, machining, and welded fabrications is a bonus.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems is preferred.
