Purpose of Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will play a key role in the design and development of the mechanical architecture for equipment used in commercial and industrial evaporative cooling and humidification applications. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including Sales, Engineering, and Production to develop products to meet customer requirements and bring new and enhanced products to market. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in HVAC systems, a passion for innovation and a proven track record of successful product testing and improvement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

- Analyze customer documents including technical specifications, schematic diagrams and mechanical drawings to understand their requirements.
- Develop conceptual designs based on customer requirements including budgetary costing and CDE (Comply, Deviate, Exception) documentation.
- Undertake detailed engineering design work using 3D and 2D CAD systems to produce models and manufacturing drawings.
- Ensure designs meet specifications, performance criteria, and manufacturing capabilities.
- Prepare and develop BOMs (Bill of Materials).
- Responsible for prototype assembly, testing and refinement. Analyze test data and modify designs to improve performance or resolve issues.
- Ensure all designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and company quality control processes.
- Ensure industrialization processes are completed to integrate the designed solution into production.
- Compile documentation to obtain accreditation for products.
- Develop technical product documentation.
- Provide engineering level support for products in the field.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers, and manufacturing teams, to ensure seamless integration of design and functionality.
- Keep up to date with the latest technologies, materials, and trends in mechanical design.
- Adhere to Condair's Quality Assurance System and Health and Safety policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Occasional travel (up to 15% of working time – domestic and international) is required for this role. The expectation for this role is to travel to the UK for 2-3 weeks within the first 3 months for training purposes.
Professional Skills, Qualifications, and Competencies
- Education and Experience: A degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering is essential. 3-5 years' experience in mechanical product or system design is required.
- Language Skills: Exceptional communication skills both written and orally in English. Strong communication skills, able to present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to Reason: Strong problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail. Excellent understanding of engineering principles and design standards. Hands-on experience with prototyping and testing of mechanical components. Ability to manage multiple design projects simultaneously.
- Computer Skills: 3D and 2D CAD experience is essential. 3D and 2D Solid Edge and PLM experience is essential. Strong computer literacy in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook Microsoft Office.
- Certifications/Licenses: Valid and up to date passport, and ability to travel domestic and internationally is required.
- Other: Sheet metal design experience is preferred. Experience in HVAC design field is preferred. Experience working in an ISO 9001 organization is an asset. Experience of structural design analysis is an asset. Experience using SAP is an asset.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to:
- Regularly use a computer workstation.
- Regularly stand, bend, twist for the purpose of obtaining and reviewing paper documents.
- Occasionally lift, bend and carry loads up to 55 pounds for prototype system assembly for fit testing, which may include working with heights (on ladders).
