Position: Mechanical Engineer II
Nature of Role: MIKEL is currently looking for an Engineer II to join our physics-based modeling team. The Engineer should have basic knowledge of mechanical design principles and advanced knowledge of analytical and numerical modeling techniques for complex multi-faceted systems. The successful candidate will support a high-performing team of scientists and engineers to analyze and predict the behavior of complex engineered materials and systems.
The incumbent will work in a team environment to develop, execute, post-process and analyze output of physics-based models at various levels of fidelity. The successful engineer will possess in-depth knowledge of the finite element method at various length scales for coupled problems (ex. Fluid diffusion, acoustics, etc). Highly qualified applicants will also have knowledge of test methods, experimental design, and data analysis used to validate model predictions. He/she must work well as part of a highly skilled and multi-disciplined team in order to provide numerical analysis products, reports and briefings.
Responsibilities:

* Model complex mechanical systems for numerical analysis using the finite element method
* Execute numerical models and post-process outputs for presentation to diverse audiences
* Participate in team meetings to plan and execute complex analysis tasks
Experience & Skills:
* BS Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related discipline
* 3 to 5 years' experience in mechanical design and analysis (or MS/PhD)
* Working to advanced proficiency in ABAQUS and/or COMSOL Multiphysics and/or ANSYS
* Coding or scripting in Python or MATLAB
* Excellent communication skills
* Excellent scientific documentation
Desired Experience & Skills:
* MS or PhD Engineering, Physics or related discipline
* Experience with computer aided design tools
* Experience with acoustic finite element modeling
* Experience with execution of experiments to measure dynamic material properties
Work Location: Newport RI, minimal-to-no telework available.
