Job Title: Mechanical EngineerPVN ID: VC-2406-006299Category: Managerial and ProfessionalLocation: OFFICE OF VC - FACILIT PLAN, CONSTRUC & MGMTJob DescriptionGeneral DescriptionAs a member of the Engineering Group in the Office of Facilities Planning, Construction, and Management (FPCM), the Mechanical Engineer will play a vital role in the successful implementation of the multi-year/multi-billion-dollar design and construction program at CUNY s 25 campuses. With a strong focus on enhancing the campuses' energy efficiency, the Mechanical Engineer will provide engineering services for all capital projects managed by FPCM executed through multiple entities including the City University of New York (CUNY), the New York Dormitory Authority (DASNY), the New York State Power Authority (NYPA) and in the case of leased spaces, the managing agents and/or landlords. The Mechanical Engineer shall:Assess existing facilities and programmatic needs resulting in the identification of the infrastructure needed to enhance the state of repair of the targeted facilities and the optimal pathway to implementUse their knowledge of best practices to advise campuses on the incorporation of energy efficiency and decarbonization elements in projectsDevelop detailed scopes of work to be used in the procurement of architecture and engineering consultant services. The scope of work shall identify the facility needs, potential alternative pathways to meet those needs, the evaluation approach, and deliverables to be created by the Architect/Engineer at each phase of design. Includes development of high-level design and construction schedules and budgetary level cost estimatesReview engineering analyses, scopes of work, design reports, and design documents to ensure that industry best practices are applied and that the projects are constructable within the specialized higher education environmentUpdate guidelines and procedures for projects in conformance with applicable codes and regulationsPrepare mechanical Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) standards and specifications for incorporation into designs, preventative maintenance procedures for HVAC/Mechanical Systems to be implemented by the campuses; and tools for monitoring the implementation of such proceduresProviding project management reports as required by the Director of EngineeringAdvise project management teams on available technologies to achieve programmatic (i.e., decarbonization, automation, preventative maintenance, enhanced state of good repair) and project-specific goalsOther DutiesRepresent the Director of Engineering in conferences and meetings in his absencePerform quality assurance site visits during the construction phase and prepare detailed reportsConduct research, perform diagnostics, and troubleshoot Mechanical/HVAC systems and equipmentSupport the identification and testing of innovative technologies for incorporation into CUNY projects, with a focus on technologies that will enhance the energy efficiency of CUNY s facilitiesParticipate in conferences, events, networking, and learning opportunitiesQualificationsMinimum QualificationsBachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering degree in Civil, Chemical, or Mechanical EngineeringMinimum of 3 years of experience in the design, analysis, and troubleshooting of HVAC systems in large commercial and residential buildings (>50,000 sq. ft.)Experience with Computer Aided Design and proficiency with Microsoft Office softwarePreferred QualificationsMaster of Science or Master of Engineering degree in Civil, Chemical, or Mechanical EngineeringNew York State Professional Engineering licenseExperience in higher education facilitiesFamiliarity with the design of boilers, chillers, steam, and hot water heating distribution systemsFamiliarity with Building Automation Systems and energy efficiency upgradesExperience with New York State and/or New York City design and construction projectsCore CompetenciesExcellent written and verbal communicationAbility to work on multiple design and construction projects at one timeExcellent organizational skills and the ability to multi-taskAbility to work under pressure and to meet multiple deadlinesAbility to prioritize competing workSelf and team motivatorAbility to be a team playerAbility to set project priorities and adjust implementation strategiesAbility to work effectively with staff, associates, and internal and external constituentsKnowledgeable of capital and operating budgetsAlert and observant and looking for ways to improve processesOut-of-the-box thinker, creative, inventive, and adaptable to situationsRFCUNY Benefits RFCUNY Employee Benefits and AccrualsAbout the Research FoundationThe Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) was established as a not-for-profit educational corporation chartered by the State of New York in 1963.
