Salary:Position Grade: 16GDepartment:Job Type:Examination Number:Location:The Mechanical Engineer (Senior) position at the Water Division is responsible for overseeing and managing a variety of projects related to water treatment plant and distribution system infrastructure. This role involves reviewing and responding to design proposals and submittals, reviewing and estimating costs, and managing projects from inception through to completion. The engineer will supervise Water Division crews on construction and maintenance projects, handle investigations, prepare comprehensive reports, and ensure that construction designs and specifications meet the required standards. This role is pivotal in ensuring the effective management and development of water infrastructure, contributing to the overall mission and goals of the Water Division.Essential Functions and Responsibilities ?Review and Response: Assess and respond to design proposals and other submittals from consultants and external agencies. Ensure all proposals adhere to Water Division standards and regulatory requirements. ?Survey and Cost Estimation: Conduct surveys and prepare detailed cost estimates for Water Division projects. Analyze project scopes to determine financial feasibility and resource allocation. ?Project Management: Oversee and manage small to large-scale projects from initial planning and design through to final construction. Prepare comprehensive design packages, including detailed construction designs, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates. ?Contract Oversight: Supervise and monitor contract work to ensure compliance with design specifications and quality standards. Manage contractor performance and address any issues that arise during construction. ?Crew Supervision: Lead and manage Water Division crews on construction and maintenance projects. Coordinate tasks, provide guidance, and ensure efficient project execution. ?Investigations and Reporting: Investigate engineering problems and situations, preparing detailed reports and recommendations. Collect samples, conduct tests on lubricating oils, and monitor testing processes to ensure accuracy and documentation. ?Design and Documentation: Develop construction designs, including scaled drawings and engineering calculations for new construction or repairs. Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of all engineering activities, including testing results and design modifications. ?Quality Control: Ensure thorough documentation and monitoring of tests for materials incorporated into structures.
