SUMMARYThis is a non-exempt position with a shift that includes days, evenings, and some weekends. A Medication Aide plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by promoting medication safety, ensuring accurate administration of medications, and supporting the well-being of patients.SCHEDULEMonday thru Friday, 2:00PM - 10:00PMESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Administering medications: Dispensing prescribed medications to patients according to the healthcare provider's instructions and following proper medication administration protocols.
- Documenting medication administration: Recording medication doses, times, and any observations or reactions in the patient's medical records or Electronic Medication Administration Records (EMAR).
- Monitoring patients and reporting to charge Nurse: Observing patients for any adverse reactions or side effects from medications and promptly reporting any concerns to the supervising nurse or healthcare provider.
- Assisting with medication management: Organizing and maintaining medication supplies, ensuring proper storage and labeling of medications, and assisting with medication refills or orders.
- Providing patient education: Educating patients on medication instructions, proper administration techniques, potential side effects, and the importance of medication compliance.
- Collaborating with the healthcare team: Communicating with nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate medication administration and coordination of care for patients.
- Following Safety Protocols: Adhering to infection control practices, medication safety guidelines, and regulatory requirements to ensure patient safety and prevent medication errors.
- Providing compassionate care: Demonstrating empathy, respect, and professionalism in interactions with patients, families, and colleagues to create a supportive and caring environment for those receiving medication assistance.
LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Able to navigate a computer and use basic software.
