Media and Public Relations Consultant

Organization: Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor Commission

Term: 1 year

Experience

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in PR, media relations, or marketing.
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful media campaigns, preferably in heritage, tourism, or community development sectors.
  • Experience working with governmental or non-profit organizations is beneficial.

Job Responsibility:

  • Promote the Heritage Corridor and the FCA as a comprehensive coordinated and memorable experience with the objective of marked improvements in attendance and tour bookings, visitor base and media impressions.
  • MWBE coordination of enterprises that will be able to assist with implementing the Heritage Corridor s present Marketing Plan
  • Media and public consulting with the corridor leadership and each FCA leadership.
  • Assistance with drafting a strategic media and public relations plan outline for each FCA (with a focus on all programming and events)
  • Developing, writing, and distributing marketing materials such as brochures, flyers, mailers, or newsletters
  • Developing public relations strategies to promote products (i.e., tour experiences) or services to target audiences
  • Event Management assistance
  • Participate in monthly Heritage Corridor Planning Committee Zoom meetings
  • Media Outreach and Management for the Heritage Corridor
  • Drafting Press Release and Media Advisories
  • Developing creative newsworthy pitches to feature the Heritage Corridor and FCA
  • Writing interesting stories for print and digital use (i.e., for the Heritage Corridor s monthly e-letter)
  • Press Event Planning and Management
  • Social Media Assistance
  • A focus on messaging, engaging storytelling with developing engaging photos and video and an editorial schedule.
  • Will work with the Heritage Corridor to develop and suggest engaging content for all social media pages Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn.

Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in media relations, including establishing and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets.
  • Experience in digital marketing and social media strategy.
  • Knowledge of crisis communication and reputation management.
  • Strong analytical skills for measuring campaign effectiveness and ROI.

Education

  • Bachelor s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Master s degree is a plus.
