Position Summary
Coordinates media-related activities on behalf of Weill Cornell Medicine (WCM).
Job Responsibilities
* Creates strategic media plans for new studies or patient stories that support institutional priorities.
* Writes media alerts, and other materials aimed at promoting WCM.
* Pitches story ideas to local, national, and international media.
* Responds to media inquiries and facilitates institutional responses or coordinates interviews.
* Builds relationships with faculty, physicians, administration, and staff to provide media counsel, generate stories, and coordinate media relations projects that will promote the institution's reputation and mission.
* Accompanies TV film crews, photographers, and other media to and from interviews and photo sessions to help ensure that institutional policies, procedures, and regulations (e.g., HIPAA) are maintained.
* Develops, coordinates, and organizes interviews, press conferences, press briefings, special projects, medical meetings, and events between the media and faculty.
* Participates in the management of response to emergency situations and sensitive issues. Assists in the development of crisis communications strategies.
* Assists and helps compile various media reports for meetings and leadership.
* Conducts daily monitoring of traditional media; compiles daily reports, daily tagging of articles for yearly reporting, coordinating review/approval and distribution to leadership.
Education
* Bachelor's Degree
Experience
* Approximately 2 years of related experience in a PR agency, academic, healthcare or broadcast news setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Experience writing for a variety of audiences and platforms, including print, web, and social media.
* Understanding of the ever-changing media environment.
