The Defense Health Agency (DHA) Director of Communications is looking for an experienced Media Relations Specialist.You will be part of a dynamic team supporting the Defense Health Agency (DHA) in Falls Church, VA. Bring your expertise and collaborative skills to make a positive impact supporting our senior leaders in the Defense Health Industry.

This position requires 1-2 days per week on-site in Falls Church, VA.

Serco supports the Defense Health Agency (DHA) and the DHA Strategic Communications Directorate which integrates, research, planning, execution, and evaluation of all Military Health System (MHS) public affairs, communications programs, and disciplines to a wide variety of key audiences at the national and global level. This includes, all military hospitals and clinical facilities, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, the Joint Staff, the Veterans Administration, and the Congress.

You will be part of a 40-person team that works closely with our DHA customer, Serco teammates and other partners to deliver effective communications and media relation content for our customer.

In the Media Relations Specialist role, you will:

• Produce articles in support of MHS missions
• Collaborate with the Communications Division team to inform focus area of articles, identify subject matter experts, and determine outreach to appropriate DHA staff offices or MHS component organizations
• Manage media relations, including media relations, media events, media messaging
• Collect and develop compendia of open-source media content related to Defense Health and Public Health current events
• Prepare DHA and OHA senior executives for media engagements, including background, context and messaging
• Provide analytical support to evaluate communication reach and effect
• Provide developed content to respond to media stories or concerns with op-ed letters for use in public statements by MHS leadership
• Use developed content to draft response to Congressional letters directed to MHS relating to the content issue

Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

• The ability to obtain and maintain a NACI clearance
• A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, english, journalism, or closely related field
• At least 5 years of work experience in content development, writing, and editing content for various mediums
• At least 5 years of experience and proficiency in strategic communications
• The ability to cooperate with other writers and editors to complete projects and give feedback on writing projects
• Experience in all Microsoft Office applications
• Effective communication skills as well as excellent writing and editing skills
• The ability to handle multiple projects concurrently

Desired attributes:

• Public Health or health care administration experience or expertise
• Experience with military health organizations (USAF, USN, USMC, USA, USCG, DHA)
• Experience with DHA, VHA or DoD communications
• Experience analyzing communications reach and effect
• Familiarity and comfort scanning news sources for military health and public health related media
• Comfort working at client offices and participating in internal strategy sessions
• Experience supporting senior military and political leaders
• Experience preparing senior executives for media engagement

In compliance with state and local laws regarding pay transparency, the salary range for this role is $65,000.00 to $75,000.00; however, Serco considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training, and key skills.
