Job DetailsJob Location Marketing - DFW - Bedford, TX Position Type Full Time Education Level 4 Year Degree Travel Percentage Valid DL required Job Shift Days Job Category Marketing DescriptionPRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITY The Media Relations Specialist (MRS) is responsible for producing professional communication that is engaging, informative, strategic and accurately presented, regarding Carter BloodCare (CBC) and the blood banking industry, and the ways in which the organization is achieving its goals and living into its mission. This position focuses on building relationships with media (TV, radio, print and digital), as well as key community and customer relationships. The MRS works to position CBC as an industry expert to get media attention throughout the year to bring more awareness to blood donations. This position also fosters relationships that can be called upon during times of need. This position requires some presence and commitment during early morning, after 5 p.m., and on weekends, both on and off site. There is a potential for significant and prolonged demands on time during periods of crisis or emergency. Regular full-time attendance is required during normal working hours. QualificationsEDUCATION
  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university in public relations, communication, journalism, radio/TV/film or similar, required
EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of two years of public/media relations, and community relations experience
  • Previous professional writing experience required. Writing genres include, but are not limited to news releases, media pitches, talking points, email communication, and presentations
  • Prior experience with a media distribution, monitoring, and measurement software product preferred
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish), preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an emphasis on AP style writing, editing and proofreading, required
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws applicable to copyright material and other attributions, media engagement, Freedom of Information Act, and privacy laws
  • Ability to pay attention to detail with a high level of accuracy, including but not limited to facts, grammar, punctuation, spelling and appropriate use of language
  • Ability to discern news and its potential impact on the organization and brand; Ability to successfully pitch newsworthy stories to media
  • Is inquisitive and asks the right questions to gather necessary information for projects or story development
  • Ability to assimilate complex information and produce clear, concise, and compelling content
  • Displays excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrates the ability to work on several highly detailed projects simultaneously while remaining organized and attentive to routine tasks
  • Ability to forge new relationships within the organization at all levels, externally with news reporters, community and industry leaders
  • Proficient skills with Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
