The Medical Assistant will assist Physicians and other Providers by preparing procedure trays, ensuring adequate supplies for the department and assisting with patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Escort patient to exam room and confirm first & last name & DOB.
- Obtain and record vital signs.
- Organize patient flow.
- Setup procedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to instructions.
- Prepare Path/lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan.
- Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed.
- Check to-dos/Nurse line.
- Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule. Keep appropriate records of maintenance.
- Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
- Maintain infection control and make sure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
- Ordering, sorting, restocking and inventory of all supplies.
- Document all medical instructions given to patients, thoroughly review wound care with patients when applicable.
- Anesthesia/Inject for procedures.
- Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner.
- Must maintain HIPAA compliance
- Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.
Qualifications:
- Able to triage patient problems.
- Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
- Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
- Experience administering injections.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
- Knowledge of office financial policies.
- Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
- Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc)
