We are currently seeking Medical Assistants to join our team of mission-driven nurses at our outpatient community health center. As a Medical Assistant, you will provide direct patient care, support for medical providers, and administrative support for other clinic functions to ensure our patients receive the highest quality care.Representative Duties:Provides direct patient care, using clinical and office procedures as appropriate for a Medical Assistant in an outpatient clinicOrganizes and prepares patient visits including patient summary sheets, labels, and huddle sheets for daily clinicPrepares exam rooms for the patient encounter; restocks, and cleans as necessaryCalls patients from the lobby into the exam room using two patient identifiers and using proper pronounsObtains chief complaint, vital signs, allergies, surveys, screenings, and consent forms from patientPrepares office visit note and documents vital signs in CPSAssists with patient care under the direction of the medical provider, RN or LPNAssists with care coordination for individual patients and panels of patients under the direction of the provider, RN or LPN via phone call, email and/or lettersAdministers all CLIA waived lab tests and medical tests (e.g. EKG, Spirometry UA, HCG, rapid HIV, PPD administration) and procedures (e.g. ear lavage) as per protocol and medical provider orders.Assists with the collection and transport of lab samples.Demonstrates competency in mailings, sorting of mail, filing, faxing, e-faxing and other duties to support administrative office needsParticipates in Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH) by reviewing patient charts for health screenings dueUnderstands and maintains standard precautions in all clinical activities, uses PPE appropriatelyChaperones patients as needed during physical/pelvic examsCoordinates in-clinic services between client services, the lab, providers, MAs, and nurses to assist with timely and smooth patient flowDemonstrates teamwork and works to build cohesive, professional relationships with all Fenway Health employees and patientsPerforms phlebotomy if deemed competentAdministers vaccines if eligible by states guidelinesProvides clinical support for walk-in patientsAssists in emergencies as trained, calls for outside help or transport as directedEffectively maintains medical supply stock, medication supply stock, equipment in working order and cleanliness of clinicMaintains equipment in good working order, and notifies supervisor of broken equipment. Notifies supervisor of needed equipment or tools including suggestions for improvements in suppliesRemoves broken equipment from service, labels it appropriately and notifies supervisor of issue with the item.Cleans, organizes and exam rooms, supply closets, utility rooms between patient visits as needed throughout the dayDisinfects exam rooms and equipment daily and after contamination exposure with appropriate cleaning agentConducts weekly inventory, restocks, and rotates the stock to prevent expired stock/shortagesInforms person responsible for ordering supplies when stock is below PAR levelIdentifies and disposes of expired medical stock appropriatelyMaintains room cleaning logsChecks and records daily refrigerator/freezer temperature and daily room temperature. Properly notifies supervisor if any temperature is out of rangeEnsures CLIA waived testing controls are completed monthly or as needed according to policy and procedures. Ensures CLIA waived testing is adequately stockedProvides phone and clerical support for general patient inquiries and outreachCoordinates and provides reminders for visits, testing, and proceduresClearly documents all phone calls and interactions with patients as well as attempts to contact patients in a timely mannerInforms and follows up with responsible provider in regards to communication with patientsResponds to flags and requests from members of the team in a timely fashionObtains medical record release (ROI) from patient/legal guardian as appropriateMay assist patients with scheduling appointments for primary care and specialty servicesEffectively communicates with patients, co-workers on the Nursing team and across departmentsDemonstrates competency in CPS and Microsoft Outlook, and other electronic communicationMeets with the assigned provider to review upcoming appointments (daily huddle)Identifies abnormal vital signs and CLIA tests that require immediate intervention and promptly notifies a provider or supervisor.Attends and participates in mandatory regularly scheduled general staff meetings as well as nursing meetingsAssists in training other employees in the nursing and medical support departmentsManages incoming and outgoing faxes via Outlook in a timely manner.Adheres to the principles of patient confidentiality. Documentation with patient information is disposed of in shredding bins, ensures that protected information is held in secure areas and conversations about patients are not overheard.Informs supervisor of training needsPerforms related duties, as assigned.RequirementsMinimum of a High School Diploma/GEDProficiency in written and spoken English.Successful completion of a Medical Assistant or EMT ProgramCurrent CPR CertificationAbility to work as a team memberDemonstrates a professional appearance, demeanor, and deportment as befitting a health care professional in an ambulatory care setting.Understands and is familiar with basic medical terminologyAbility to work harmoniously and effectively with colleagues, patients, clients and vendors across the spectrum of diversity, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, color, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, socio-economic status, national origin and immigrant status, religious or spiritual identity, disability (physical, mental, emotional and developmental), veteran status, and/or limited English proficiency.Willingness to contribute towards Fenway's efforts in becoming an anti-racist organization and promoting a culture dedicated to ongoing development in service of humility, equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging, where differences are acknowledged and valued.Preferred Qualifications:CMA or RMAExperience working with an ethnically, culturally, racially and gender diverse staff and patientsWorking Conditions and Physical Effort:Physical work environment generally is that typical for an office in terms of lighting, temperature, and structureAbility to work in a busy community health center. Long hours (up to 12 hours) are sometimes required.Work may involve exposure to loud noise, strong odors, and emotionally labile individualsTypically moderate physical activity requiring handling average-weight objects up to 15-20 pounds, Assisting with mobility-impaired patients, and standing and/or walking for most the day.
