Melmark OverviewMelmark is a nonprofit organization providing clinically-sophisticated evidence-based special education, residential, vocational, and therapeutic services for children and adults diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders, developmental and intellectual disabilities, acquired brain injuries, medical complexities, and other neurological and genetic disorders.Medical Assistant OverviewThe Medical Assistant will support the day-to-day administrative functions of the Nursing Department and assist the program administrative team with overall coverage. Responsibilities include providing phone coverage, scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, and ensuring that the department runs efficiently. This role also involves assisting with medication management, ensuring regulatory compliance, and providing exceptional customer service to students and their families.Medical Assistant Schedule and Salary Information
  • Full-time position with rotating schedules, including occasional weekend and holiday coverage.

Medical Assistant Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED required; college or business background preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred (or must obtain after hire).
  • Valid U.S. driver's license and minimum age of 21.
  • Minimum of 2 years of office management experience.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and familiarity with Residential Services programs.
Medical Assistant Responsibilities
  • Provide administrative support for the Nursing Department, including phone coverage, filing, and scheduling appointments.
  • Ensure timely and accurate medication administration support, including tracking and distributing medication boxes.
  • Update and maintain student medical records, including medication records, health forms, and face sheets.
  • Schedule medical appointments and lab work, and communicate details with staff and families.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including maintaining up-to-date health forms (physical, dental, vision, etc.).
  • Place orders for medical supplies and ensure medication orders are processed and communicated properly.
  • Maintain petty cash records and coordinate pharmacy pickups as necessary.
  • Assist in managing student allergy lists, ensuring timely updates across the nursing office, cafeteria, and classrooms.
  • Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies, and replace items as needed.
  • Support nurses during Integrated Review Team (IRT) meetings, including preparing medical records and taking notes.
  • Assist with Medication Administration Records (MARs), including preparation, distribution, and filing.
  • Participate in regulatory audits for the Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC), Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), and DDS.
  • Enforce HIPAA regulations and maintain confidentiality of medical records.
  • Assist with triage and tracking of student health data, including seizure and BM records.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
