For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. Job Summary

The Medical Assistant provides basic clinical and clerical support in the delivery of patient care under the direction of provider and nurses.

Key areas of Medical Assistant responsibility:

  • Direct patient care; vitals, screenings, patient history, health maintenance, virtual health
  • Indirect patient care; scheduling, check in/out, referrals, scanning, chart prep, prior authorizations, transportation facilitation, work queues/worklists, case management and discharge planning
  • Point of care testing; EKG, Hemoglobin A1C, Urinalysis, Hemoglobin POCT, Urine toxicity, INR, hCG

Qualifications

  • Diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant program OR an active CT CNA, EMT, Paramedic Certification.
  • In lieu of education requirement, at least one year of experience in direct patient care (acute or ambulatory space) may be considered.
  • Relevant experience or MA externship in a busy medical office preferred.
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred.
  • Case Management and discharge planning experience preferred.
  • Certified BLS to be obtained through employment provided RQI training. To be completed 3 months (90) days of hire or job transfer.
  • All required credentials to be maintained throughout employment.
  • Must be able to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information in English. Bi-lingual language skills preferred.
  • Flexibility to respond to changes in work schedules as necessary or as requested
