JOB TITLE: Medical AssistantGENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Responsible for direct patient care and the assisting of the Physicians and Mid-Level Practitioner.LOCATION: Gainesville/Lake CitySUPERVISON RECEIVED: Reports to Clinical Manager / Clinical DirectorESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities as assigned which may include: checking schedules and organizing patient flow; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.; collecting patient history; performing screenings per provider guidelines; performing and obtaining vital signs (B/P, pulse, temperature, respiratory rate); assisting physicians with various procedures; charting; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
  • Fulfills responsibilities as assigned which may include: sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/ requisitions as needed; managing charts to ensure information completed and filed appropriately.
  • Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned which may include: setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocol; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  • Responsible for the performance of patient laboratory clinical testing to include specimen processing, test performance and reporting test results.Will perform CLIA related pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical duties.
  • Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned which may include: respecting/promoting patient rights; responding appropriately to emergency codes; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisors quickly.
  • Explains EKG procedure and testing preparation to patients using appropriate patient education materials. Prepares patient for Holter monitor use.
  • Performs electrocardiograms on patients (stat and non-stat) in competent and caring manner.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of health care field and cardiology.
  • Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in giving patient care.
  • Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families.
  • Knowledge of EKG principles.
  • Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  • SKILLS:
  • Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medication as directed.
  • Skill in taking vital signs
  • Skill in understanding of patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families.
  • Skills in obtaining information via computer.
  • Skill with all equipment.
  • Skill in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, staff and the public.

  • EDUCATION: High school diploma is required. Graduation from a recognized training facility for medical assistants is preferred.EXPEREINCE: Minimum of one year work experience in a physician practice is preferred.REQUIREMENTS: Maintains minimum of basic life support CPR certification. Successful completion of required job competencies within 90 days of employment.ENVIRONMENTAL / WORKING CONDITION: Combination of medical office and exam/procedure room settings. Work is performed in a clinical setting, resulting in exposure to communicable disease, body fluids including blood, toxic substances, ionizing radiation and other conditions common to the clinic environment. PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: Work is in a clinical setting. Work frequently requires a full range of body motion including handling patients. Work involves standing and walking for extensive period of times. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Staff must be able flexible and available to provide staffing assistance for any/all emergency and disastersituations.
