We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Biller to join our client s team. The Medical Biller will be responsible for managing all aspects of the billing process for their physical therapy practice, including claim submission, reimbursement tracking, and addressing billing inquiries. This role requires a thorough understanding of medical billing practices and physical therapy coding to ensure accurate and timely claim processing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit insurance claims for physical therapy services rendered, including coding and documentation verification.
  • Ensure accurate use of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes relevant to physical therapy.
  • Monitor and follow up on claims to ensure timely processing and payment.
  • Verify and input patient billing information, including insurance details and demographic data.
  • Assign and sequence appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes for billing purposes.
  • Resolve coding discrepancies and ensure compliance with billing regulations and guidelines.
  • Post payments from insurance companies and patients to the billing system accurately.
  • Reconcile accounts and resolve discrepancies between expected and actual payments.
  • Prepare and submit secondary claims and patient statements as needed.
  • Review and appeal denied or underpaid claims, including preparing supporting documentation and communicating with insurance companies.
  • Identify patterns in denials and work with clinical staff to address coding or documentation issues.
  • Maintain a record of denials and appeals for reporting purposes.
  • Generate and distribute patient statements, ensuring accuracy in billing details.
  • Address patient inquiries regarding their bills, insurance coverage, and payment options.
  • Set up payment plans and follow up on overdue accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA, when handling patient information and billing practices.
  • Maintain accurate and organized records of billing activities, including claim submissions, payments, and correspondence.
  • Stay updated on changes in billing practices, coding standards, and insurance requirements.
  • Prepare and analyze billing reports, including accounts receivable, aging reports, and revenue cycle metrics.
  • Identify trends and provide insights to improve the billing process and financial performance.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of billing policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with physical therapy staff, office personnel, and insurance representatives to ensure accurate and efficient billing practices.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Provide training and support to other billing team members as needed.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification in medical billing and coding preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical or surgical billing, with a focus on physical therapy or rehabilitation services.
  • Proficient in using medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in billing and coding.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Understanding of insurance claim processes, reimbursement procedures, and denial management.

Please note- The annual base salary range is $50k to $68k. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things. Details about eligibility for bonus compensation (if applicable) will be finalized at the time of offer.
