Brief DescriptionThe Center for Discovery (TCFD) is a leading provider of healthcare and education services for more than 1,200 children and adults with complex conditions, medical frailties and Autism Spectrum Disorders, located 90 miles northwest of New York City. Deeply focused on an individual's personal potential and possibilities, rather than a disability, TCFD strives to create better care and unique and challenging opportunities for the most vulnerable populations.In 2024, The Center for Discovery will open a world-class Children s Specialty Hospital to provide short-term, inpatient assessment and treatment with the goal of better diagnosing underlying problems that affect behavior and learning in individuals with autism and other conditions. Improved understanding of underlying physiological, medical, and mental health challenges will lead to more targeted treatments and interventions, all to enable children and adolescents to remain at home, in school, and integrated in the community.The Children s Specialty Hospital will conduct comprehensive medical, behavioral, and clinical assessments over a maximum of six months. Staff will engage parents, caregivers, and school district personnel as partners in the process.Job Summary: Medical DirectorThe Medical Director is responsible for overseeing the medical staff at the Children's Specialty Hospital and ensuring the delivery of comprehensive healthcare services in accordance with established protocols and standards. This role encompasses clinical supervision, policy development, liaison with healthcare specialists and institutions, disease prevention, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration. As mandated by 14 CRR-NY 680.8, the Medical Director, a qualified physician and staff member, directs and supervises the health and medical care of individuals while maintaining the general health conditions and practices of the specialty hospital. Per 14 CRR-NY 680.13, the Medical Director must be a physician currently registered and licensed to practice medicine in the State of New York, designated to ensure the delivery of all medical services as specified in section 680.7 of this Part. Qualifications are reported to OPWDD at the time of employment.Responsibilities
  • Clinical Oversight:
    • Provide and supervise medical treatment, including preventive, habilitative, and rehabilitative programs.
    • Conduct health assessments and examinations as required.
    • Maintain medical surveillance and facilitate regular medical examinations.
  • Consultation and Referral:
    • Offer healthcare consultation and refer individuals to appropriate specialists as needed.
    • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure holistic care delivery.
  • Policy Development and Administration:
    • Develop and revise medical policies and procedures, encompassing physician visits, emergency coverage, record-keeping, and participation in interdisciplinary processes.
    • Advise hospital administration on medical matters and contribute to decision-making processes.
  • Interinstitutional Relationships:
    • Establish and maintain professional relationships with external institutions and agencies, facilitating access to supplementary healthcare resources.
  • Communicable Disease Control:
    • Monitor and report communicable diseases and infections in compliance with legal requirements.
  • Genetic Counseling:
    • May provide genetic counseling to individuals and their families as required.
  • Medication Management:
    • Review and address medication-related suggestions from pharmacists and registered nurses.
  • Record-Keeping:
    • Ensure accurate documentation of significant changes in individual health status and treatment outcomes.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Maintain effective arrangements for obtaining specialized medical services not routinely available within the hospital, ensuring prompt access during emergencies.
Qualifications
  • Medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in a relevant specialty.
  • Active medical license in the State of New York.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
