PACE MEDICAL DIRECTOREducation and ExperienceEducation and experience required to be a medical doctor; minimum 1-year experience working with a frail or elderly population; previous related medical administrative experience of five+ years preferred.License & CertificationLicensed to practicemedicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong interest in community and family medicine with ability to communicate effectively with staff, patients, family members and other health care providers; strong organizational skills and good time management abilities; effective management skills with team focused philosophy; ability to conduct presentations, prepare and write reports; must adhere to specific time frames and deadlines without close supervision. Electronic Medical Record and basic computer word processing knowledge required.Supervision ReceivedReports to the CEO; Collaborates with the PACE Program Director and Quality and Compliance Director.Supervision ExercisedProvides on-site supervision of clinical staff; may assist in the training, counseling, and direction of personnel performing PACE assignments. Responsible for participating in Interdisciplinary Team in evaluating prospective participants for appropriate admission to PACE program.Job SummaryThe Medical Director is responsible for the delivery of participant care, clinical outcomes, and the implementation, as well as oversight, of the quality improvement program. The Medical Director serves as the lead in the design of the medical components for AASC PACE dba AllCARE for Seniors and dba Mount Rogers PACE and as a liaison to the medical community on behalf of AASC PACE. As a physician member of PACE's interdisciplinary team, the Medical Director must meet all federal and state licensing laws, certification and regulations necessary. The Medical Director serves as the consultant and resource to the community based primary care physicians and Mid-level providers.Typical Duties* Responsible for the delivery of participant care and clinical outcomes in coordination with Mid-level Provider and Community Based Physicians and Specialists. Foster ongoing communication processes with the Community Based Physicians/Specialists and Interdisciplinary Team to ensure active involvement in the care and treatment of each PACE participant.* Supervise the Mid-level Providers in the delivery of health care within their scope of practice according to the Commonwealth of Virginia Regulations governing the licensure of Mid-level Providers and provide oversight for their delivery of medical care to PACE participants.* Perform direct care to participants at the PACE Center on scheduled workday.* Participate in IDT Morning Meetings and Care Plan Meetings.* Participate by teleconference when needed to support the 24/7 PACE model of care.* Coordinate the performance appraisal of the community based primary care physicians and Mid-level Providers.* Advise administrative staff in organizational development for clinical operations, providing for the efficient utilization of personnel in carrying out goals and objectives of PACE.* Assure that quality of care is maintained; Provide oversight of the quality improvement program (QI).* Direct clinical personnel in a manner that achieves continuous progress toward goals; Ensure compliance with PACE provider regulations as they pertain to medical/clinical components of care.* Maintain acceptable clinical standards of care and enforce established policies and procedures; Provide input on the development of policies and procedures.* Recommend continuing education for clinical staff and maintain and update professional knowledge and skills through continuing medical education programs.* Advise the Program Director in matters involving budget, personnel, equipment and facility needs by working with administrative staff to maintain the financial viability of the center.* Assist the Program Director and Quality and Compliance Director in developing and implementing polices required in PACE regulations and/or by board of directors.* Ensure risk management programs are adequate to protect patients and staff.* Cultivate cooperative relationships with the health care community to develop and maintain a network of referral sources by promoting good public relations* Reconciliation of CDC guidelines to clinical practice.* Medical Director is to review all participant deaths.
