Responsible for the prompt, efficient, and accurate performance, validation, and reporting of laboratory test results which are utilized for the purpose of prognosis, diagnosis, treatment, and research. Under the direct supervision of a TN licensed Director, Manager or Supervisor, the MT II is responsible for the assigned shift as scheduled. The MT II may work under the guidance of other qualified clinical laboratory personnel. Employee must meet the qualifications as defined in CLIA requirements 42 CFR Part 493 for one or more of the following roles based on education, experience and responsibilities, performed by specific incumbent, within the job: Technical Consultant, Technical Supervisor, General Supervisor and/or Testing personnel. Department will designate and maintain records for individual specific qualifications.Job Responsibilities:Accurately performs and reports laboratory tests by evaluating incoming specimens to determine if they are acceptable for testing. Reporting tests results from procedures according to procedures. Resolves equipment and testing problems. Correlates test results and takes appropriate action as needed. Performs progressive and/or confirmation testing as needed. Reviews and monitors patient data to ensure reliability. Enters and retrieves patient data correctly, utilizing the laboratory information system (LIS) and all other appropriate records while maintaining strict patient confidentiality. Promotes patient safety and reports all issues promptly to laboratory leadership.Performs QC and assists in Quality Program initiatives to meet standards/requirements of hospital and licensing/accreditation agencies. Performs reagent and analyzer QC and records results. Recognizes and appropriately addresses QC issues and assists others in resolving QC problems. Maintains accurate records and ensures performance of all QC procedures as required by regulatory agencies. Assists in updating procedures as assigned to reflect current practice. Collects and analyzes quality data as assigned. Participates in continual improvement activities. Complies with the standards/ requirements of hospital and licensing/ accrediting agencies.Troubleshoots and performs preventive maintenance procedures as assigned. Performs setup/startup of equipment and effectively troubleshoots all equipment and offers assistance to others as necessary. Performs, documents, maintains records of preventive maintenance and reports all problems to appropriate supervisory personnel.Onboards and trains new employees and students as assigned.Assist with procedure manual maintenance and writes updates to procedures as needed. Complies with all department and institutional policies.Participates in validation and verification of new equipment and assays. Suggests new methods or improvements to current methods to maintain standard of practice and cost-effectiveness. Participates in the development and execution of verification or validation plans. Assists with data analysis resulting from verification and validation processes.Assists leadership in maintaining staffing to facilitate workflow to meet established turnaround times. Proactive in improving workflow issues in the lab and adjusts daily work as needed.Inventories, receives and stores supplies as defined in each laboratory section. Inventories reagents and supplies on a timely basis. Reports low levels of reagents and supplies to appropriate personnel and orders supplies, as applicable. Receives and stores reagents and supplies for designated section.Maintains continuing education requirements as defined.Performs other related duties as assigned or directed to meet the goals and objectives of the department and the institutionMaintains regular and predictable attendance.Minimum Education and/or Training:Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or in one of the biological, chemical or physical sciences and completion of a medical laboratory technologist training program.Master's degree in Clinical Lab Science accepted in lieu of experience.Minimum Experience:Two (2) years of medical technologist experience required.
